FWIW: Dire wolves are native to the Americas and not to Europe, so they've literally never walked Europe.
Dire wolf remains have been found across a broad range of habitats including plains, grasslands, and some forested mountain areas of North America and the arid savanna of South America.
Also, as I read more it might be a stretch to describe these as dire wolves, they're GMO-wolves.

Really! ah! so makes sense why they went extinct around the same time native Americans showed up.

Very interesting but I don't have a chance to watch the vids now but plan to at some point.
A few years ago I read an article about a thought to be extinct female tortoise being found in the Galápagos Islands & there were some expeditions to find a mate but no more were found. I'm wondering why this cloning tech was used to bring dire wolves back instead of being used to give that lone female tortoise some fertilized eggs 
It makes more sense to me to first use this tech to bring back a much more recently extinct species than dire wolves.
