Me too. It's quite discouraging. I like to think of the Einstein quote:
"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to swim, it will spend its entire life believing it is stupid."

I just haven't found my "swim" yet.

I do not in any way simply believe that I am smarter than most other people. I know that I am! The vast majority of the world's population is either in the ignorant/naive category, or in the just plain stupid category. It really isn't that I'm so smart, it's just that they're all just so stupid!

It depends on what you mean by "smart". I seem to be able to see the "big picture" better than most other people. I could never get interested in sports and stuff like that. I know a lot of facts (that's typical for aspies) so I appear "smart" to many NTs.

I can't solve for X to save my life, though.

More calculating, more tactical, smarter than a lot of others. But not a genius.

Actually, it is:

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb, it will spend its entire life believing it is stupid."

You're just being modest. I'm sure you are in the 99th percentile. :)

I thought it was "to climb a tree"...I may be wrong, but this is the version I had for a while as my signature on another forum site. Anyway, regardless, it's an awesome quote :P

I hate being referred to as smart or intelligent, because it isn't true. People seem to assume having a PhD makes you smart :/.

I don't think that I'm "smarter" than other people, but I do think that I am more intellectually careful than other people.

If I notice myself or someone else saying something that "sounds wrong", either because it contains a possible category error, or it is so vague that I can't interpret its meaning, or because I suspect that the terms in which it is stated would fall apart upon learning more about the topic, it grates on my ears like a squeaky chalkboard. My first instinct is not to agree or disagree with people, but to expose their framework.

Because of this, it is often the case that I have previously mapped out most of the possible positions on a particular topic, and so I sometimes get the benefit of coming across as "smart".

However being smart is a necessary condition for earning a genuine doctorate.

if someone has an IQ of 101, then they are smarter than "most" of the population.
i have an IQ that is greater than 100, but there are still many people smarter than me.
why is it necessary to measure "smartness"?
it is possible that a world saving idea may be had by someone with an IQ of 55 and no one else.

you may have 2 cents or 10 million dollars in capacity.
10 million dollars can be spent in a failed quest which yields 2 cents, and 2 cents can be turned into 10 million dollars if the correct decisions are made (yes that is an extreme exaggeration for the sake of illustration)

i do not care if no one understands my ideas. that fact will not prevent me from developing those ideas if i feel they need further development.

brilliant ideas are not restricted to brilliant minds.

No. It means they have scored better on the tests.

they scored better on the tests for a reason. if that reason is pre-familiarization with the questions, then their score is void, and i was not talking about void results.

if, without cheating, they scored better on the tests, then there is no disclaimer necessary pertaining to their score.

Yes. I'm better at figuring out problems, finding patterns, etc. Also more logical and I have a far better memory than most people. And (though I dont think IQ tests are an accurate test of intelligence) I consistantly score much higher than average.

It doesn't MAKE one smart when they get a PhD, but (with a few exceptions) one must be rather smart to get a PhD. So if someone has a PhD, it can be assumed that they are rather smart.

That is a supposition on your part. Where is the hard proof? Can you document what you say from objective unimpeachable sources? If you can't then you are blowing hot air.
