Natural-Language Processing (NLP) has made leaps in the last fifteen-months (the last post in this thread). Not surprisingly, Google is major participant in (NLP).

(NLP) applies artificial intelligence. For example, (NLP) applies 'trend-analysis' - that is 'trend analysis' discerns current news/Internet content in order to spot emerging trends in any topic - those trends that would otherwise "get lost in the shuffle of mass data" without (NLP).
The trick here is that (NLP) must separate "the signal from the noise" and understand what constitutes important trends that are developing "below the radar screen so to speak", verses trends that are nothing more than "false signals" -- promptly rejected from analysis.
