Can't you string up a wire? I've seen some indoor HF setups that work great.

Perhaps I could try something like that on 20 m. I used to have a full wave loop on 160 m band, so everything short of that just seems so tiny.

I got my Tech (+) when I was 17ish (maybe 18 ). I had to do code, and I learned 5wpm. I was happy to pass that. lol. I wanted to learn to 20, but I never got there. Maybe I will some day, but I am going to have to relearn it. I only remember a few letters. ...---... (I used to do that all the time as a kid - until I learned a few more and could do my name.) :) I am KB8NYX btw

Radio was always a special interest for me, so it seemed natural to become licensed. I initially struggled with the code, but once I learned it I got pretty good at it and could "converse" in the 40 - 50 wpm range. In my teenage years, I also taught myself the old "Morse telegrapher's code" - quite different from the International code used in the examination - and would hang out in the CW portions of 80 and 40 meters conversing with the old timers that knew what the heck I was sending. I'm sure they were astonished when I'd say "age here is 14."

I got an advanced class license back in high school (early 70's). Did some stuff with satellite and RTTY way back but haven't been very active in the last two decades. Still keep my license (KC1MC) and occasionally use it, talked to some folks on 2M in New Zealand when I was there a few years ago.

By looking at publically-accessible databases, I am able to determine the names and addresses of all those who have posted their callsigns here.

I am asking the Mods to close and delete this thread.

They are probably aware that you can look up their addresses. You are not allowed to transmit anonymously on the amateur radio bands. And that's how people send you QSL cards.

I don't see why this thread should be closed.

It's up to the Mods now.

I am also an Amateur Radio operator, and I share my callsign only with other "Hams", and only during QSOs and on QSL cards.

My concern is that non-hams might exploit the information to harass or burglarize other Amateurs.

But, if the Mods decide that Hams posted in good faith while knowing the inherent risks, then my concerns will likely be ignored.

About names and addresses being available, yes, but I guarantee that is not my address. I have not updated mine in a while (and haven't talked since either). Honestly, if someone wanted to look me up, they could do so just by putting in my name. They don't need my call sign to do so. Besides, I don't care if someone has this information. It is made available publicly anyway. This is something that you know when you sign up as a amateur radio operator. It is general public knowledge. It's not like it is linked to my SSN. It is only my name and AN address. Who is to say that either is accurate?

I implore the mods to keep this open. It is so easy to find info about people on this site just by their screen names. Looking up a call sign is harmless (I doubt that most people who are not hams would have even thought about doing it). If someone does not want the info up, they can edit their post and get rid of that information.

Duh.

Anyone who registers as a HAM knows (or reasonably should know) that their callsign is personally-identifiable information. Reporting this thread to the mods (who may not know anything about amateur radio and thus not aware of the obviousness of your claim) is disingenuous. If anyone who's shared their callsign here has a problem, they are more than able to contact the mods or edit their post themselves.

As for the topic at hand - I took the test for Technician last summer at a hacker conference and failed because I had been up for 72 hours straight and wasn't doing basic multiplication correctly. I'm looking forward to eventually finding the time to go for my license again.
