Best quote ever by my tech-y dad. Originally started as a conversation about unemployment and my new iPad...

Don't you just love the iPad? You better jailbreak it!

Um... what Mac is running DOS? The iPad runs iOS, which is a stripped-down BSD Unix. Even if you take a Mac and install Windows in Boot Camp, the supported versions of WIndows are all NT-based.

I believe that I comprehend this joke.

Steve Jobs is head of apple. He recently took a medical leave.

So we've been un-Jobed.

get it?

Not really. How have we been "un-Jobbed?" It would make sense if the next part ("your mac is now running DOS") were true, but it isn't.

We have been Un-Jobed in that Steve is, for the time being, not runnng apple. The humor derives from the idea that, in the abscense of Steve Jobs Macs switch to DOS.

At least I thik that's the joke.

But that doesn't make sense. All Apple products are still running BSD Unix. And how is the absence of Jobs anything to do with DOS? Steve Jobs worked on DOS back in the day.

People. Sheesh. All of them worked on DOS back in the day. The joke is that in removing Steve Jobs from the picture your mac would suddenly start running DOS. The point is that no one would ever expect that to happen given the fact that mac's shouldn't be running DOS (and it just can't happen... until it does :D). Wouldn't it be a surprise if somehow or another your mac suddenly ran DOS. It wouldn't make sense... but a lot of things in this world don't make sense. A mac with the blue screen of death?! AAAAAAHHHH! 8O

If he said it would be running Linux or something, it'd actually make sense. But DOS just doesn't.

I still don't get it. How does Jobs being gone cause Macs to run DOS? I mean... nothing runs DOS anymore. You can choose to run DOS on an Intel Mac if you really want to (better to do that in an emulator, if at all) but modern versions of Windows aren't DOS-based, and haven't been in a decade.

And Macs can BSOD. Just install Vista (which is not DOS-based) in Boot Camp.

You can't be this... ignorant, can you? It is a joke. Not all jokes are literal. Snap, snap! Put 1 and 3 together... 13? 4? B? Just pick whichever way of interpreting it that your mind deems best and run with it. Choosing for something to not make sense is choosing to reject the logic your brain should be naturally creating. If it is not doing so then I am possibly considering this a sign you are dipping below 100... Come on, sheeshhhhhhh... :P
