It sounds like there was some trauma to the motherboard which is causing an open (non) connection or a shorted connection. Did any foreign object happen to get in there? Or could it be the "tin whiskers" which caused a satellite to go awry and a nuclear power plant to shut down?
I did fail hotswap an old HDD the other day... It just turned off and I turned it back on again and it was working fine. This was 6 days ago (I know, hotswapping is stupid).
There is a screw at the bottom of the case but I think its never touched a component so that cant be it.
