I always thought this scene was cool in "Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan". I always thought the retinal scan they do for security was cool! Maybe this is something they will have in the future. I think some laptops can kind of do this now.

It's great  I love it when Worf says "I will feed him" with a irritated voice

One of the things that kind of annoyed me with Star trek was somehow humans seemed to be in charge of the intergalactic federation of aliens. In a universe full of advanced aliens, the idea humans were going to be the ones travelling around the universe like old fashioned colonial sea explorers making contact with aliens who have never met other aliens is totally absurd. I think Gene Roddenberry was projecting a 1960s cognitive schema that Europeans will continue their exploration of the seas further into the realm of space.

I think in this respect Arthur C. Clarke's concept of Space Odyssey is more realistic that more advanced aliens leave us breadcrumbs to follow to help us continue on our journey evolving as a species.

I like this clip from the Star Trek pilot "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Gary Mitchell was an interesting character and was one of Kirk's closest friends before Spock. There is a Star Trek novel that explores the aftermath of this episode that I would like to get.

I don't know about lap tops as the eye has to be positioned very precisely in a sort of half eggcup.
The general hospital here does retinal scans, which are impressive (as are the hand held heart monitors, and the lovely sloshing sound they put out). Mixed results in my case; the retina of my strongest eye is in great shape, but my "lazy eye" (as it was previously diagnosed) retina is half covered with scar tissue, so no hope of a cure. Ah well; I've lived with it for 70 years, so I suppose I can manage for a few more...

That's very cool you have them in the hospitals where you are! I think it's a pretty neat idea because like a fingerprint each retina is unique which makes it hard to try to bypass. I'm sorry to hear about your "lazy eye". Both of mine have an astigmatism to them and my left eye has deteriorated from what it used to be. That's a long time to deal with it.

Hi All, I just wanted to give Star Trek it's own separate space as I am a big Star Trek fan. Here you can post anything Star Trek related. Images, clips from any series, any movies :) I just thought it would be nice for Star Trek to have it's own space. I haven't watched alot of the new series "Strange New Worlds" or "Discovery" but have seen clips so feel free to post these too!

EDIT: If you can try to keep the videos and images to posting guidelines. I forgot to add that.

So, the video is saying Android is a security risk?

They have always been rigorous on identity, asking for proofs at every stag if they don't know you personally, which is less time consuming (yes, this walking up to the machine and just sticking your eye in is another Hollywood myth, I'm afraid, it's not yet so easy. Same with brain scans; it can take several attempts). These new machines are certainly impressive; such a shame that there is an acute shortage of doctors (and dentists)! Much as I'd like to relocate to the mountains for my last years, it's a risky business if one doesn't have a médecin traitent lined up!

I've never watched star trek. But I do want to give it a try. Where is the best series or movie to start with it?

Awesome! If you like Sci-Fi I think you will like it! Sorry for the late reply. I saw your post last night and tried to get on last night but the site was slow. That's a good question on which series to start! If you want to start chronologically "The Original Series" is good to watch first. You could really start with any series though since the characters in each show are stand alone ones that aren't related. Star Trek: The Next Generation is a great series to watch first as well. It starts off 100 years after the Original Series. You get a good sense though of the world as the series progresses and you don't really need to see "The Original Series" to follow it. It does help though to provide more background and context.

I started out watching Star Trek: The Next Generation when I was younger and then watched "The Original Series" as my Uncle is a huge Star Trek fan and got me interested. I then started watching all the Star Trek movies. The first one I seen was "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" which was made in 1979. That movie follows the crew from "The Original Series". There is 6 Star Trek movies featuring "The Original Series" crew. The movie after Star Trek VI is Star Trek: Generations which has Captain Picard from Star Trek: The Next Generation in it. There are three movies following this one that star Captain Picard and the crew of "The Next Generation"

It is a huge series and world that the show has. Besides Star Trek: The Next Generation there is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Star Trek: Enterprise (this series takes place chronologically 100 years before "The Original Series). All of these shows were made in the late 90's and early 2000's. The new series that is currently out "Strange New Worlds" takes place chronologically before "The Original Series". I hope this isn't too much information maybe

that's really helpful thank you!
I've decided to start on the original series to get caught up on on the star trek universe lore.
