How many of you watch movies just to criticise them?

You know there's many people who say that, for instance, they hate romantic comedies, or they hate a certain actor. But they still go ahead and watch those movies just to talk s**t about them. As if it's their birth right to watch movies they know they're going to hate, and no one can stop them from doing that. Any people here who do that often?

I will sometimes do this. Some people do this to make sure they feel their opinion is justified. I know that when I have voiced an unpopular opinion on any movie that I have not seen (because I think it looks bad) some people will try to refute my opinion by saying 'How can you say that when you won't even watch it?'.

Well that is a valid point, usually. I think there are some exceptions though, like when a movie is about something you are already against.

I don't really watch movies just to criticize them, but thanks to internet reviewers like RedLetterMedia and Thatguywiththeglasses, I end up subconsciously critiquing whatever I watch.

As long as you're not biased. Do you have preconceived notions about certain genres, or actors, or movies made for a particular demographic (like chick-flicks, teen movies)?

I will watch movies several times in order to privately mull over the story and imagine better ways of telling it.

I'll end up Googling historical movies and the actual events that took place around them.

I used to have a bias against chick flicks until I actually sat through a few good ones from start to finish. Same with teen movies. There are diamonds in every film genre that have shattered any bias I once have had. I'd be lying if I said I did not have any bias against specific filmmakers, but really, every film critic is guilty of that much.

Hehe, I do that too. But only after watching the movie. If I'm certain that I'm going to hate a movie I don't watch it at all.

A little bias is ok, but does it ever happen that - you know you're going to hate a movie by a filmmaker, not dislike but hate. You still watch it with the same mindset, not with an open mind, and then say that it was crap? There are many people who actually do that that's why I'm asking.

Regarding any Michael Bay movie, I already know what to expect so I know how many criticisms I'll end up having to make.

I watched Pacific Rim the other day, expecting it to be absolutely stupid, but it turns out it actually pretty fun to watch. The plot and characters were paper-thin, but the action scenes more than made up for it. :D

I guess that means you saw it with an open mind, otherwise you wouldn't have liked it!
