I'm just wondering if anyone here likes Godzilla or other giant monster movies. As for me, I am obsessed with them. If you do like them, I'd love to know which ones are your favorites. My favorites are Gojira (the first one), GMK, Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II, and Godzilla and Mothra: the Battle for Earth. And I still loath the American remake of Godzilla (the one with Matthew Broderick) to this day . Thanks for any replies.

P.S. I've just recently created my WP account, and this is my very first post:D.

My fave is 1972 Godzilla Vs. the Smog Monster (originally Vs. Hedorah (ヘドラ), but you probably already know that). It could swim and fly and walk and change forms and stuff. It was the ultimate cool monster. Heck, it is STILL the ultimate cool monster.

When I watch my Gojira movies, I much much much prefer to watch them in original Japanese with subtitles. The dubbing is absolutely atrocious in the English versions.

I had a crush on the Mothra girls when I was younger ;)

Hello AtomicKaiju and welcome to the forum!

As for me and Godzilla. I have only seen the Mathew Broderick version. To be honest I didnt knew other movies did excist of this theme...but its cool to know. I like to analyze diffrent versions of the same movie theme if Im in the moood for it. I have seen Jurassic Park and KingKong ( a new version, dont know any famous actors in it)... if that counts :P

In my opinion, Godzilla vs. Hedorah was probably the weirdest Godzilla movie ever made, but it was still awesome. Hedorah was Toho Studios most original monster and the first movie monster made entirely out of pollution and many T.V. shows and movies adapted their own pollution monster based off of him/her/it.

I usually watch the Japanese version of the Showa films, and the dub of the Heisei and Millennium films.

Not so much these days, but I was really into the Godzilla flicks when I was younger. The one I remembered the most was Godzilla vs. The Sea Monster, where Godzilla did battle with a giant crab. That was a fun one.

I just remembered this topic, and I thought I should explain why I think the Godzilla movies I chose to be my favorites are so great. Before I go on, I must explain that when I do a movie synopsis, I don't like to put much focus on the plot, because I want the viewer to watch these movies and figure out the plot for themselves. I may insert mild plot spoilers to point out some reasons why I like these movies, but that's as far as I will go. Enjoy.

Gojira: The first of the series and quite obviously the best. This movie represents the events of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and the fear, pain, and suffering that the Japanese felt during these events. In this film, Godzilla (called Gojira in Japan) is the physical embodiment of nuclear warfare, and lays a path of destruction all over Tokyo. What made this movie for me (other then Godzilla destroying Tokyo) was when Dr. Daisuke Serizawa hesitated to use a weapon of mass destruction he created to stop Godzilla, because he feared that if everyone saw it, every nation on the planet would want one and force him to make more. I highly recommend this movie to ANYONE, even if your not a fan of monster movies.

GMK: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack: Now this is a good Godzilla movie. It had great acting, detailed suits and Mothra puppet, FANTASTIC special effects, and vicious monster fights. The only thing that I didn't like about this movie was that King Ghidorah was portrayed as a hero. In my opinion, Ghidorah should ALWAYS be a villain. However, I do realize that two daikaijus, Anguirus and Varan, were replaced with Mothra and King Ghidorah so that more people would want to watch it (later two daikaijus are MUCH more popular than the former two). If you want to see epic monster battles, this is one to see.

Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla II: This movie wowed me the first time I saw it. Godzilla, Mechgodzilla, and Rodan were an excellent cast of daikaijus, but what surprised me in this film was how well BabyGodzilla was portrayed. Usually, Godzilla's son (he's adopted, NOT reproduced by Godzilla) isn't the type of character that fans go head-over-heels for, but to me, he's the most adorable and sympathetic character since E.T.. Although the plot seems to focus on the baby, this movie isn't without a few daikaiju fight scenes. In fact, these battles are some of the best in the entire series. If your a Godzilla fan and haven't given the chance to see this gem, do so and enjoy that you did.

Godzilla and Mothra: The Battle for Earth: This movie holds a special place in my heart, because it is the reason why I became a Godzilla fan. It was the second Godzilla movie that I have ever seen (the first was King Kong vs. Godzilla), and it was like love at first sight. The special effects were great, Godzilla was great, Mothra and Battra were great, the fights were great, the plot was great (IMO), etc.. When I'm in the mood to watch a Godzilla movie, I usually end up watching this one. If this movie got me into the Godzilla franchise, it can get anyone into Godzilla as well.

Too bad I don't get any local channels that show Godzilla movies. And I agree, if Godzilla isn't portrayed as a guy in a rubber suit destroying a VERY detailed miniature city, it's just not a Godzilla movie. Also, I'm not a fan of CGI, because it isn't organic and I prefer to see a movie where the monster (be it a suit or a puppet) was actually in front of the camera.

What's the station? Is it a Chicago only station, or is it available all over the U.S.?

Thanks for the info, but can you tell me when was the last time you've seen a Godzilla marathon. It seems to hard to find one these days, and when they do show a Godzilla movie on Syfy (I hate the new logo), Encore Action (I can't get this channel anymore), or any other channel, it's usually one that I already have. Also............. I must admit.................... even though I'm a big Godzilla fan............. I haven't seen them all yet. Yes I'm a little embarrassed to admit it.

A lot of Godzilla fans actually hated GFW, but I'm not one of them. In fact, I loved it. It was the first Godzilla movie I ever bought, and I don't ever regret it. What won me over in this movie was when Godzilla faced off against his American counterpart (now known as Zilla), and killed him in 15 seconds.
