I'm talking about the 1998 movie. Alot of people don't seem to like it. Me personally I think it's not that bad. Is it because it's not faithful to the original movies which I've never seen or that the acting was bad? I will admit it does have quite a few flaws that I'm willing to overlook like the special effects wern't 100% or some the acting and humor wasn't top notch but aside from all that it wasn't that bad. Can't wait for the 2014 movie.

I've heard some people try to defend it by saying that it's a bad Godzilla movie but a good monster movie on its own terms, but it really isn't. The comedy is painfully unfunny, which is a problem since there's so damned much of it, and every time the monster shows up, he (she?) runs away from the attacking military instead of going on the offense as any good kaiju should. It's also got a pretty idiotic and lazy script, which allows for a creature the size of a skyscraper to hide in subway tunnels whenever it's convenient, among other nonsense. Not that it's a complete waste: the opening third of the movie is actually a pretty good build-up (to a better movie that never arrives), and the CGI is excellent. I also like the design of Zilla, although I seem to be in the minority on that one.

It was all around weak. I thought the acting was bad, the love triangle was super cheesy and the "experts" great idea was a ton of fish.

The 1998 Godzilla is actually part of the Godzilla canon. She makes a cameo appearance in Godzilla Final Wars and gets her ass kicked.

I don't remember a love triangle. All I remember was Matthew Brodwick and whatever her name was.

...I remember sorta liking it .
I hadn't seen Independenc Day at the time which probably helped ! !! !! !! !!
I saw it on a double bill with Disney's Mulan on what amounted to a " east Meets West " db , at a grindhuose movie theater - pretty much " the last of the grindhouses " - that is gone now , the St. Francis , in San Francisco .

Would that really be considered a love triangle. Her boss (Harry Shearer from The Simpsons) was just being a pig. He was married and was trying to get into whats her face. She didn't have any feelings for him.

Also I felt kinda sorry for Godzilla when he was killed in the end. I know it's just a movie but if this was real I question if it would have been right to kill that monster instead of just capturing and studying it. But I guess it had to be done otherwise the human race would have been exstint. It was just really a fight for survival hell the Godzilla babies wanted to eat the humans. I'm no huge animal lover though I do like cats and I do eat my fair share of meat and I'm in heaven when I eat pepperoni pizza.
