Hi Everyone,

I'm in the SW Washington/Portland area and was recently diagnosed as an Aspie last year.

It's been tough being "almost normal" all of these years, but I'm trying to keep a positive outlook . If anything, I have more perspective on my past and more awareness of why I am the way I am (and why other people are the way they are).

Anyway, hopefully this forum is a way to expand the social circle a bit. Give me a shout if you are in the area. I'm always down for a couple of beers.

Mike

Welcome to Wrong Planet. Hopefully you're not too far from the Square Pegs Olympia meetup group. You'll find a lot of like minds there.

Thanks, redrobin. That's a bit of a drive for me, but I'll keep it in mind.

hello Fortran, our next meetup is at our usual place, the faculty lounge opposite the cafeteria [across the breezeway from the natatorium] at evergreen state college, next to the quad/clocktower, in Olympia, this Saturday at 12:30. if you decide to make the long drive, you will recognize us as the tall geeky looking guy dressed all in black with long hair, and the shorter fellow with a crew cut and pullover sweater. you will know you're in the right place if you see the bus pull-in lane behind you and hear a radio station playing in front of you.

Thanks for the info, auntblabby. I'll probably be more interested with something closer to home, though.

Thanks for the welcome, Anonymous!

Hi from Vancouver. I sometimes go to the monthly meeting for Asperger support at Mt. Tabor Methodist church on Stark street in Portland led by Roger Meyer. Right now I'm not going to anything as I try to learn to hear after a cochlear implant. Right now all I can hear is static and tinitus.
I'm trying to remember, the meetings are usually the second or third Sunday of the month from 3pm to 6pm. No beer at the meetings.

Okay, the potluck meeting is this Sunday, January 12th. Since my auditory nerve and the cochlear implant still aren't cooperating well, I don't know if I will go or not.

Welcome!
I'm 38 and live in Kansas. I, too, know what it's like to be undiagnosed for decades and wonder, "what's UP?!" I just began research on Asperger's three months-ago. Now it all makes sense. So exciting, yet...strange, for sure. At least i'm finally aware of other people on this 'planet'! Nice to meet you.
I'm a geography buff...and, in fact, nearly moved-out to OR/WA once or twice. That's not in rhe plans now, but, just outta curiosity, are u originally from the portland area/pac NW? Bow do u like it?

Thanks for the welcome. I'm a military brat, so I've been all over the country and Germany a few times. Been living in the Portland area since 1997 and don't plan on moving again. The lifestyle is pretty good over here.

By the way, being a military brat was tough. The constant moving was hard for anybody, let alone someone with Asperger's (which I didn't know about then of course).

Hmmm. I see. (Thanks for replying.)

Hmmm. Yeah, I bet moving around would be extra-tuff for someone on the spectrum, especially (as you said) if you weren't aware of what was going on (the reasons for the differences).

I've never moved-around like that, but...my mother lived on a base in Germany (in the late 60s) and my older sister was born in a military hospital in Frankfurt.

I'm glad you like it out there in sales-tax-free-(across-the-border)/state-tax-free Land!
A pretty sweet set-up...and beautiful country!

I live in SE WA. and it's about a 180 mile drive from here to seattle. I try to go to the square pegs meetup when I can but I like to do it when I can do other things in town as well to justify the trip.
