Right now I have a full timish job. I plan on starting college next fall, after I've turned 24 and can get more financial aid. I'm going to have to maintain at least a part time job while attending, but I don't even know how to balance that stuff.

Anyone on here manage to work full or part time while working on their degree? Any advice for how to maintain your sanity and still make at least some time with your friends and significant other?

I'm trying to do just that, for a certain value of "work" (it is full-time, though). I have no friends and no significant other, however.

I honestly don't think it's possible for most people. With or without Autism, it's impossible for a human to be doing their studies, and then going to work, and trying to fit in time for home-studies/homework in that, and eating time, sleeping time, social time, relaxing time.

Are student loans not an option for you? Or any welfare/social security you might be entitled to?

Screw social and relaxing time. Sleep should cover all your relaxing needs, and socializing is something you do as a duty, when you have to, not for pleasure. When I want to do something pleasurable and I'm not afraid of being judged by others, I ... study :nerdy:

Yeah, just throw away your social life and end up like Spiderpig. Can't see anything wrong with that.

Seriously though, working full time makes academic pursuits challenging. Not saying it can't be done, but for a lot of people they need to prioritize, ie, cut back on their working hours.

I'm at uni at the moment and I work 28 hrs a week give or take. I don't have much spare time and what I do have gets hijacked by other obligations, family mainly, or sabotaged by my ongoing mental problems. It's possible to work and study at the same time, but it is tough, especially if you're the socialising type. If you're not though then it gives you the perfect excuse to avoid social occasions  . If you have any time management concerns I would say start working on them now, it took me a full year to get into my stride in that area. Also have some strategies or supports in place for deadlines etc., if you're the type to get overwhelmed by stress.

The sense of accomplishment is very rewarding though, overall- You can do it :) !

Ha, ha, noöne needs no worry about that: it's impossible to end up like me by throwing away your social life, because I've never had one to begin with. I only wasted loads and loads of time trying to get one, always to no avail. It's never been anything but a loathsome duty to me, and one impossible to fulfill. Devoting my time to what I really want is only liberating. So, if you've ever successfully socialized, not to mention you have a partner, you'll always be absolutely superior to me, no matter what.

They are supposed to be.

Or cut back on everything that isn't working, studying or sleeping.

Or, you could at least try to enjoy your life.

Looks like you have a somewhat demanding concept of "not stupid". Well, you know the way to prove you meet it: by working and studying and succeeding effortlessly. Then you'll have a point calling those of us who find it challenging stupid.

The only thing I've ever enjoyed in life is studying. Everything else I did out of duty, fear or unfounded hope.

Yeah my mom and aunt and my uncle all managed to work full time, attend college full time, and all were in relationships. My mom had two kids (me and my sister. I was 7 and my sis was 9 when she started) at the time as well. However, none of them are aspies. They're all mentally ill, but none of them have aspergers.

I do like to see my boyfriend and best friend. Other than that I'm not super social.

That's probably perfect in a way, you seem close to both of them so they should be able to support you when you need it, and help you relax in your down-time between work/study :) .

I will say for the relationships though, they were all live in at that point. That simplifies. Me and my boyfriend only started dating like a month and a half ago, so definitely aren't living together.

Indeed, that's pretty much the ideal situation: share your busy life with your partner and everyone else can go to hell for all I'd care.
