I just remembered that I used to sing to DS when he wouldn't respond to me. I would sing that line form the Who song, "Tommy can you hear me?" but I would put his name in instead. He doesn't like it, so now sometimes I still say to him when he is unresponsive, "I'm gonna sing!" and that usually gets his attention. That was more for like times when he was playing leogs and it was time to get dressed though not in a situation like you described with your DD where there is the high potential for someone to get hurt.

My son is the same way, and it is exhausting. I have to say everything at LEAST twice, and usually more than twice.

Me: "Put your shoes on."
Me: "Put your shoes on."
Me: "Stop looking at the t.v. and put your shoes on."
** I turn off t.v. **
Me: "Put your shoes on."
DS: "What?"
Me: "Put your shoes on." ** I point to shoes, which I have gotten out and placed together facing him so that he will be able to find them and put them on the correct feet, and not try to wear sandals in January **
DS: "There's this machine that generates huge huge huge-"
Me: "-Ok, put your shoes on."
DS: "Which ones?"
:wall:

I also have to ask him every day if, when changing his undies, he actually TOOK OFF the dirty ones first. Sometimes he is wearing one pair over the other. Also, some days he puts on one sock, and I have to tell him to go put the other one on.

That sounds very familiar ;) I have to instruct her to do everything, and go over every step of the way. Shoes are also a frustration, if I do it for her she is either floppy like a doll or fidgety and I struggle to get them on. Then ten minutes later when I have got them on her she will panic because she hasnt got her shoes on, I remind her that I had just pout them on for her and she says "oh yeah, I didnt notice!"
