Yes, the company promising the world the best thing of all time has finally gone under. On the upside, we can now use the phrase "when Duke Nukem Forever comes out" to our advantage. Say that to someone who's not caught up on gaming news.

I heard. Not that I was ever expecting Duke Nukem Forever to come out. I played the Duke Nukem sidescrollers back in the day and still have Duke Nukem 3d on my PC; despite being a non-gamer, Doom/Quake/Duke Nukem 3D are still classics.

It's interesting, though, that we did get Chinese Democracy - so we got one of two.

Matt Groening said a similiar thing about the Simpsons: as soon as a Simpsons movie hit theaters, it was the end of the TV show. Three years later, it's still on the air. Quite unfortunate as that show jumped the shark years ago...

Wow, I kind of did have a tiny bit of hope that it would eventually have come out, but I guess we can stop wondering now. I never liked the porn and nudity jokes parts of the old 3d game, but I did like the aspects of killing the politically-incorrect monsters and some of Duke's funny one-liners.

Well it looks like a gaming icon has finaly been put to rest, it would have been cool to see a more modern day of the multiplayer, which had shrinkrays, trip bombs and jetpacks.

It sucks.

I hope everyone who was working there can land on their feet, so to speak.

wonder if another developer will buy it and take over? the series does have it's value so should appeal to another team.

Apparently Take-Two still owns publishing rights, so this can still get released. Actually, since a new team could start work on it, the game has a better chance of release.

But then again, that might not happen.

My first thoughts too. Thing is this comes just as they actually release some footage of it. Drat!

Apparently Take-Two's not interested in fronting the money to publish it. After the (easily) millions invested in this game already I don't blame them.

But seriously, raise your hand if you ever expected Duke Nukem Forever to actually be released.

Thought so.

I hope someone leaks really old stuff some day, ala Fallout 3's Van Buren or the LameDuke beta.

I mean, not that whatever they were currently working on was going to suck, but I thought the old videos looked awesome...especially the one with Duke riding down the highway on the back of a truck (99, I think).

But mostly, I just think this sucks.

Double drat!

Y'know, I grew up playing Apogee back in the good old days of shareware when they didn't have such a generic name, and I have to say, I really thought I'd get more emotional when they finally passed officially. But not so much :?

Apogee is not 3D Realms, Apogee is just fine...in fact, they're putting out two seperate handheld Duke Nukem trilogies.

While to my knowledge, Apogee LLC is still using the name, Apogee, as in the publisher from the early 90s which was a big name in shareware, changed its marketing name to 3D Realms around 1996 (although the legal name of 3D realms remained Apogee to the end). I do not know to what extent Apogee LLC represents any continuity with Apogee, but it is not the same company.
