I've been a fan on Silent Hill for a couple of years now, but it doesn't scare me anymore. It is a great series still, because it's much more than only the terror. I really like the stories, and soundtracks. Also, nowadays I find SH more disturbing than scary. But I do like that too. It's disturbing in a disgusting way, I think.

Also, I just recently started to play Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and I'm in love! The story isn't so great than in SH, and it isn't that disturping at all. But it is scary! For me at least. It's because you can't kill the monsters. Maybe I'm bit insane, but that's something I've been missing. I love it when game makes my hears race and hands shake like crazy. :D

Anyone else in love with horror games?

I was playing Silent Hill a couple of weeks ago, but I got really mad when it gave me the cheapest death in any videogame I have ever played. That giant tentacle hand thingy that drags you under the ground. Dumbest way I've ever died.

Siren: Blood Curse is easily the most frightening game I've ever played.

I also like Silent Hill, at least the first 3.

I'm not the biggest fan of horror games in general, or the horror genre in games. They usually tend to fall flat or prove illogical.

The F.E.A.R series was okay. It had it's moments where it was really creepy. Not too horrific though. Just creepy. My fav part was on the PS3 version of F.E.A.R. 1, there was a module you played as a Delta Force Operator and when you get to the end of it, you die. You later in the main campaign reach the place where you died as the Delta Operator and it's fairly gruesome as far as the graphics allow.

System Shock 2 is a game where I still get worked up over when I play it. Not from the horror though, but from how dickish the servebots are when you encounter one, turn around, and there is a second one waiting for you like a god damned ninja. Even with the graphic mod you can get to improve how it looks, the game is a bit cartoonish by modern day standards. The really horrific part is the ambiance created through the psychic visions, contact with the many, visual sightings of the remaining survivors, public announcements by Xerxes, voice emails, and log files you find along with physical evidence of how everything went to s**t on the Von Braun and the Rickenbacher. The only thing I liked about Doom 3 was the fact they attempted to do something similar with the log files and similar environment interactions.

Resident Evil wasn't that good a series to me. Zombies, Viruses, and parasites oh my. It was roughly the same game over and over and over again.

I feel that both Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein(ps3,xbox360) are not primarily horror. Despite that, I feel they made excellent use of horror elements.

I felt that Sanitarium was more disturbing and creepy than horror.

One of my top 10 all time favorite games is Eternal Darkness for Gamecube.

I also enjoyed Resident Evil 6 ( yes I'm serious ), the FEAR series and the Dead Space games.

If you liked Amnesia, then Id recommend you the game "Outlast". It is very similar, so no shooter and has much creepy atmosphere. The first Alan Wake game might also be to your liking, the following ones, were sadly not as good. When it comes to horror-shooter, I can recommend you Doom 3, so because of it being a shooter, there is more action in it, but it still gives one the creep with creating a great horror atmosphere.

I liked the first Resident Evil and Silent Hill, but the later parts were sadly not really scaring but simply action shooters in my oppinion. (Does not mean that they were bad action shooters, but if I dont get to scream once while playing, its not an horror game. ^^ )

Has anyone who played Silent Hill died and it shows you died in the car crash and none of it was real? I've only gotten that once. That's one of the things that sold me on this game. That and the UFO endings were great, especially for SH3. The UFOs come in and then Laser Beams everywhere leaving Silent Hill a big pile of rubble.

For horror games where fighting is an option, I think its important that the controls be unnecessarily difficult. As in a nightmare, it takes too long to raise your weapon or run away.

The old tank controls weren't bad controls. People don't like them, because they're different, but as a survival horror veteran, I can tell you that being able to back away and shoot, or swing your weapon, is a must in this genre. Of course, there are better control schemes now. The modern system of being able to move forward and backwards with ease wasn't a thing back then.

As far as survival horror goes, I love the classics from the 5th and 6th gens, hate the 7th gen take on the genre, and think I love the modern take on it. Mindless zombie slaying blood and gore tests with little else, just don't qualify as survival horror in my book. The scares have to be there, or it doesn't work for me. For a more complete rundown of my thoughts on the genre, visit my new blog, and scroll down to yesterday's post: http://landofgaming.net If my posts end up running together, and you end up picturing Chris Walker from Outlast riding in that Princess carriage from E3 last year, then you're not alone.

The second Amnesia game (A Machine for Pigs) should not be approached in the expectation of being scared. Don't see it as a sequel to the original game at all, if it helps; it's horror, but story-based. Unlike the rest of the internet, I really liked it.

Is anyone going to get Daylight later this month? I'm going to stream that as soon as I can onto twitch. I used to love Silent Hill, but kind of got sick of it seeing as how the puzzles weren't to my liking and then having to recheck every place you've been and still running into monsters and such. I did beat the first one, but I wasn't about to replay it and get the good ending as much as I wanted to get that ending. I don't replay games all that much. Especially when it takes hours to beat it from the beginning.

I know Slender: The Arrival/The Eight Pages isn't much of a game, but it did give me a lot of good jump scares. I also bought Outlast for the PC. Had I known it was going to be free on PS+, I would have waited, though first person games I prefer on the PC w/ Keyboard and mouse. I do have the first Amnesia, but didn't know how to get the other endings.

I do want to get my hands on Dead Space some time. I know I'm way behind on that. I may just try FEAR. If anyone knows of any other good and current ones, let me know. I know there's Dying Light and The Evil Within to look forward to.

If the 2010 Splatterhouse game and the Castlevania series count as horror games, then I'm definitely a horror gamer. :D

Eternal Darkness is an excellent game.

I rather enjoyed the three Project Zero games, as well.

I've just played The Cat Lady... which I found to be very engaging, and really... really odd.
If it was a song, then it would probably be "Come to Daddy" by Aphex Twin.
I made a point of playing it at night. In the dark. With good headphones.
This is recommended.

Amnesia : The dark descent runs like sh*t on my laptop even with the most basic graphic options, which is an embarrassment to itself as there's no good excuse for that.
I assume that it will only work properly through a dedicated 3D card, or something equally as lame.

Resident Evil 4 is the business ... I've yet to play 5 and 6, but they seem good as well.

Clock Tower 3 was suitably scary.

You should play Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, it's the game that Amnesia is based on. I think they have it on Steam.
