Look's like the car combat genre has made a comeback! At least on steam anyway. I noticed that more and more games on steam, under the "Racing" genre, contain a lot of "Cars with guns" Now I know some of these games are old, but have been just become available on steam within the last year or so. And I didn't even know they existed until today! Lucky for me I had birthday money, from my grandparents because your never too old to get stuff from your grandparents. Anyway, I bought two $20 steam cards and went home to buy some games, that's when I found steam has car combat games! I mean, sure none of them are on the same level as Twisted Metal or Vigilante 8. But very much the same. They have a few interesting titles. Hard Truck Apocalypse, Sledgehammer / Gear Grinder, and Gas Guzzlers Extreme, to name a few.
Well Gas Guzzler's was on sale so I bought it, along with Sledgehammer / Gear Grinder. Since I had enough I also bought Bully Scholarship Edition, Skull girls, and the Lego Asgard pack for Lego marvel.
An unusual purchase of games I know.

What I can say about the car combat games? well, Gear Grinder is way to easy for the most part, but it's still enjoyable if your like me and want to strap machine guns on a big rig truck.
Gas Guzzler's is still downloading, It looks like fun, but I won't know for almost another 10 minutes or so.
Hard Truck, all I know about it, is that it doesn't like to work on window's 7 and 8... I have 7, which means if I ever buy it, I'll have to "fix" it, which I guess means deleting the game's video files, so I figure that means no cut scenes for me. Some one called it "Fallout on wheels" It's open world too.

I've never been all that crazy about guns... but for whatever reason I love putting them on cars, trucks, motorcycles, anything with wheels and an engine. it makes racing and driving so much more exciting.
Believe me I was not happy when Twisted Metal was killed off. But these games make up for it. On a related note, I made a StarCraft 2 Car Combat game mode. It's not perfect, but I did upload a video to YouTube.

I am surprised they haven't made any video games that emulate the crazy combat in Mad Max or Gorkamorka. (I know they where going ot relase a gorkamorka, but stopped). Seems very easy, just make 3d images of apoc cars with a lot of chains and scrap, add a driver wearing a tire pants, and bang, you got apcolyptic car combat.

There's Carmageddon. It's based more on Death Race 2000, since it was originally going to be a licensed tie-in, but IIRC they were also toying with the idea of a Mad Max tie-in...some of the cars/characters are inspired by The Road Warrior.
