Also note the verse is not about rapture (no Bible verses about the rapture actually exists).
Yah, the pre-trib view of the rapture, even by the standard of the verses they reference, isn't even consistent. The "rapture" is just a short hand of the gathering of the flock in the air that's described in several passages.
Matthew 24
"30And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. "
Now when does the son of man return in context to the tribulation?
Revelation 11
"The Seventh Trumpet
15 The seventh angel sounded his trumpet, and there were loud voices in heaven, which said:
“The kingdom of the world has become
the kingdom of our Lord and of his Messiah,
and he will reign for ever and ever.”
16 And the twenty-four elders, who were seated on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, 17 saying:
“We give thanks to you, Lord God Almighty,
the One who is and who was,
because you have taken your great power
and have begun to reign. "
So, if you look at the Matthew passage in context to Revelations, the gathering up of the elect (rapture) doesn't happen till the seventh trumpet is sounded, well into the tribulation period.
The pre-trib view is really popular but doesn't hold much water by biblical standards. If anything, it just makes the people who believe it more passive to the state of affairs in the world since they have it worked out in their minds that they won't have to live through the hell storm.
Nonetheless, I'd like to find this sci-fi book. It sounds trippy.
