Pity is not hatred.
Teaching immature children about the world comes from love. Not hatred.
You don't tell your child that his/her imaginary friend is imaginary and NOT real, because you hate him/her.

Methods with childish adults have to be adapted from the methods used with unruly children.
It's called tough love.

Mocking and insulting one's point across is not teaching, it's condescention.

No, most people distrust and dislike atheists more, as far as I understand these polling data. This includes in comparison to Muslims, homosexuals, fundamentalists, and many other groups. I could be wrong, as I am going off of a memory of a source that is likely biased.

Wrong in my case at least, I'd rather argue with you about creation versus evolution than argue against what basically seems to be, "poetry equals veracity".

Well, beauty is truth, poetry is beautiful, therefore all poetry is true.

That being said, I think that the push-back against 6 day creationism is kind of a phenomena like push-back against racism. A lot of people are creationist of some form, or racist to some extent, but if a person is vocal around people who consider themselves higher class, there will be waves of push-back as those ideas are considered somewhat discredited.

Christians are far, far, far from the most hated group (and christianity is still far, far, far from the most hated religion). Christianity is often critiqued and yes, there are people (such as myself) who deeply dislike christianity (in my case, it's because I deeply dislike religion in general). However, Christianity is still generally well respected by many and it is a very popular religion. In many countries, christians make up an overwhelming majority, so it doesn't sound like there's much hatred towards it (at least in those countries).

I think what the issue here is that there are people who are speaking more freely about their opinions on religion and the religious (although not all of them) are taking this as a threat to their religion and a precursor to discrimination.

Now, don't get me wrong- I am sure there ARE christians (yes, even in places like America) who are hated and discriminated against on the grounds of being christian, but that's actually quite a small minority compared to the discrimination other groups face. Gay people face horrendous discrimination! Disablism is a major issue in our society as well (in many cases, it is the direct reason why we suffer)! Heck, even in culturally diverse communities, racial minorities can still face some pretty bad discrimination as well.

In my experience, christianity has always been well respected by most of the people around me (even non-theists defended christianity as if it wa, by default, a good thing). I don't think I ever met anyone who truly hated christianity until I became a teenager and even then it was a little outlandish to hate it.

However, in the west, it seems that Islam is the most feared and the most hated religion. Now, I still have the same dislike for islam as I do for christianity, but I recognise that many muslims face horrendous discrimination. I heard a lot of islamophobic comments when i was at school and knew people who were the targets of such hatred. I also have a christian friend who said that islam was an evil religion, which I thought was shocking because he is usually very laid back and open minded as a person. I guess religion is his blindspot....

So, I'm sorry if any christian here has faced discrimination like that a but your religion is not the most hated. In fact, christians are often treated more favourably depending on where you are in the world (like in America, for instance).

There are those American Christians who claim to be a hated, discriminated against group, just like there are white males who claim the exact same thing. This is nothing but self-pitying crap by people who want to have their turn to feel like victims.
I am a white guy, and a Christian in the U.S. to boot. Trust me, I and none of these cretins have ever been discriminated against because of faith or color.

I lived in Texas for about half a year (about 20 or so miles north of Dallas) and you couldn't avoid the Christians. It was like a horrific plague zombie (Jesus) worshipers who hated alcohol.

Many Christians are more vocal in Texas, however just plain everyone is more vocal in Texas also. In Minnesota if you look too "out of place" you'll get the ever-bored police there asking you random questions. But in Texas people will even use megaphones in downtown Dallas to whine or express whatever they think.

I thought that was just Alex Jones?

And I thought there were laws against using megaphones in public without proper licensing?

If there are laws, then they may have been passed later on (last time I saw a guy blaring on a megaphone about his complaints was back in 2001, I think) or it could have been that he got a license to complain about random stuff. Either way, regardless of the existence of laws and the following of them, there still remains in the nature of people there to speak out.

The Protestant version of Christianity is too ludicrous to hate. How can one hate something that makes one giggle and snort?
