Christians are far, far, far from the most hated group (and christianity is still far, far, far from the most hated religion). Christianity is often critiqued and yes, there are people (such as myself) who deeply dislike christianity (in my case, it's because I deeply dislike religion in general). However, Christianity is still generally well respected by many and it is a very popular religion. In many countries, christians make up an overwhelming majority, so it doesn't sound like there's much hatred towards it (at least in those countries).
I think what the issue here is that there are people who are speaking more freely about their opinions on religion and the religious (although not all of them) are taking this as a threat to their religion and a precursor to discrimination.
Now, don't get me wrong- I am sure there ARE christians (yes, even in places like America) who are hated and discriminated against on the grounds of being christian, but that's actually quite a small minority compared to the discrimination other groups face. Gay people face horrendous discrimination! Disablism is a major issue in our society as well (in many cases, it is the direct reason why we suffer)! Heck, even in culturally diverse communities, racial minorities can still face some pretty bad discrimination as well.
In my experience, christianity has always been well respected by most of the people around me (even non-theists defended christianity as if it wa, by default, a good thing). I don't think I ever met anyone who truly hated christianity until I became a teenager and even then it was a little outlandish to hate it.
However, in the west, it seems that Islam is the most feared and the most hated religion. Now, I still have the same dislike for islam as I do for christianity, but I recognise that many muslims face horrendous discrimination. I heard a lot of islamophobic comments when i was at school and knew people who were the targets of such hatred. I also have a christian friend who said that islam was an evil religion, which I thought was shocking because he is usually very laid back and open minded as a person. I guess religion is his blindspot....
So, I'm sorry if any christian here has faced discrimination like that a but your religion is not the most hated. In fact, christians are often treated more favourably depending on where you are in the world (like in America, for instance).
