So I cut this short - I just was at a funeral, buddyboy. Yes, I saw who was atheist and who was not.

And one of the children of the subject of the funeral has been reading her journals and is starting to rethink atheism.

More rational than they admit? Lord, you have a long way to go. Most people I meet are much less rational than they pretend.

Well, I'm sorry you're over your limit then. Because the only coherent thing I got from that was a mild personal insult aimed in my direction.

My condolences on the funeral, however. Be well.

Well to be honest, just tell them they can agree to disagree with you then, that you consider trying lie about the fact you disagree with them on some issues in your view would be far worse than flat out telling them you respectfully disagree with them.

Don't get into a shouting match with them, but keep it such that you value your integrity, I would think they will respect you for that.

Does the girl live with her mom or her dad? I wouldn't be surprise if much of the reason for her supposed troubles is coming from living with her dad.

Sometimes people will respect you more if you give their ideas a shot, instead of giving it a full disregard or rejection without giving it a chance. So what im saying is you could go to church for a while, then if you feel its not for you after a few weeks, just tell them.

it might be beter than simply rejecting them.

you could also try saying that you've tried it once and it wasnt for you.

You are in a relationship with her. Not with her and her family.

Now, of course, her family are part of the whole package--but you need to go no farther than to be polite. And she need do no more than that with your family, in turn.

Everything beyond common courtesy and good manners is a "nice-to-have."

But they have this discomfort around me DESPITE the fact that I am the reason the girl is still alive (i care not to go into specific details about that). I obviously make the girl happy, so I find it interesting how they put their faith over their god damned child! But this guy doesnt have a track record much better than mine either:
*pre-marital sex
*divorce
*adultery
*fooling around with a 17 year old online while married to his ex-wife and blaming it on the stress of his daughter's autism diagnosis

He's 47 and his wife is 27! lolololololol wat is she thinking

Okay, wait a year for both you and your girlfriend to no longer legalistically be minors and then tell them to shove off - if your girlfriend is willing to elope. I don't know what your religious views are since you don't list them, but it is doubtful that (if your report is true) her father is a better influence either. Oh, by the way, you've posted this online and it is visible to everyone who has internet access, which probably includes your girlfriend's father.

The main function of your girlfriend's family is to judge you. You have to be kind and just gently say no. Don't get angry or anything, just say no. If they get irrational over it, cut ties and focus on the girlfriend. She is the one that has to make the final decision , not her family.

Well, that is an irrelevant fact after all, it is not like you saving her life means you won a right of exclusivity or something like that.

Yeah, religious people are hypocrites, but it doesn't matter. Since they are her family you will have to avoid burning bridges. Maybe it is inevitable that the bridges are burned, but if it happens , let it be their fault and not yours.

They pretend to object to your religious views, but their REAL issue with you is of course the Bieber hair.
 (good natured ribbing)
