Living then.. living now
This may be true. I'd love to say that I'd love to give it a try, but truth is, I like my power points.
I wouldn't do it in Canberra. It does get below zero there often, but it's also full of politicians.

Mhm.. the plugs go into the power point. Or we just say, "Gotta plug this into a wall somewhere."
Occasionally people here call the power point a power socket.

It's like "faucet" and "spigot"--regional differences.
Oh my. That could get confusing here.. lol
And you probably know that here we call a faucet a tap.
I've heard spigot used here, but not very often.

We say "electrical outlet." When I was a kid I remember the one in the kitchen was a large black Bakelite looking thing hung down from the ceiling and everything got plugged in there.
Housing excess makes me think of McDonalds. In order to maintain and increase stock value (after the initial flooding of the U.S. with burger joints) the industry had to somehow have the customer spend more money...........thus was born all the large and very large (fat saturated) sandwiches and meals we see everywhere today in fast food.
And of course these large sandwiches have helped create the other bigger problem: girth.
The same has happened to the housing industry: You MUST have a min. of 4bd/3ba because this will show friends and colleagues how successful you are. And in return the children (if any) are raised by strangers while mommy and daddy are busy working for others, which is now considered by most as more important than raising your children.........and, I feel, the results are quite evident in our society.
Perhaps the most interesting part, as all this technology does provide a great deal of creature comfort, per the so called 'evolving' human being; there is the potential that all this instant gratification is leading to a species that is functionally disabled by culture in reciprocal flesh and blood communication usually benefiting greatly the vital skill of cognitive empathy, as well as the basic art of human movement getting to point B from A, where A could be anywhere in a 360 degree radius in the forest on trees, if you will, from B.
In part, I never fully learned to move or to connect to other human beings a result of my propensity to be able to do well on tests that used mechanical over social cognition variables. And reading books, and sitting behind desks intently focused to the lecturer never moving, certainly 'ret*d' my physical intelligence greatly too.
It's all just common sense as I look back on it after over 50 years and now enjoy life the same way I did when i was a child, as I simply freed myself from many, but no, obviously not all of modern cultural creature comfort conveniences.
I exercise a great deal, so the all you can eat buffet does provide a valuable adaptive function; and typing provides a much greater speed of writing at around 130 words a minute for me than the 'dinosaur' way of writing; and my Maui Jim patented 7 tint technology sunglasses that with type two trigeminal neuralgia allows me to see.
Ah, moderation, the way of some old testament and Buddhist leaning folks, is key to balance and having the best life possible, in only my opinion, of course.
But without social cognition and physical intelligence cognition practice, practice, practice; the old saying of use or lose it, yes, does apply to the overall human condition, potentially resulting in cultural produced functional disabilities, in real effect and AFFECT in and of life, and yes love too.
