BTW, it would be unconstitutional in the US to have school-sponsored prayer or Bible readings in public schools, as this would violate the Establishment Clause of the 1st Amendment.

The difference here is that prayer/Bible readings are attached to a specific religion, while "God" is considered so diffuse by the courts that it can refer to a multitude of faiths, reptiles with weight problems, particles, Navy SEAL snipers, and questionable soccer goals.

Yep...it is, indeed unconstitutional to have public school-sponsored prayer meetings and that ilk. There was a famous controversy dealing with "school prayer" back in the 1960s.

Contrary to the notions of the "religious right," separation of church and state was a hallmark which formed one of the bases for the founding of the United States.

Some people think that "under God" should be removed from the Pledge of Allegiance and "in God we trust" should be removed from money. What's next? Will the restaurant TGI Fridays need to change its name?
Who recites the Pledge of Allegiance any more, anyway?  Buncha kindergartners, NASCAR drivers, and professional baseball players?  When was the last time YOU recited the Pledge of Allegiance?

I, for one, pledge allegiance to our new insect overlords.
