Well that's only for certain gay people, and bonus points for those that have a chip on their shoulder. Those are the ones that they can patronizingly pat on the head and say "There there. If they should be religious or conservative, or have an opinion that you disagree with. Would you still consider them as worthy if they should happen to disagree with you on gay marriage?

US conservatives have more children than US liberals. And it is directly tied to religiosity... see the second and third link below for details.

i can't speak for other liberals** here, but my "white-knighting" of the LGBT community is motivated by the fact that my brother/best friend is gay and i happen to think he is just as human as i am and deserves the same rights that are granted to me under the law, including the right to marry.
And I am bisexual in orientation, although I abstain from the 'bi' for Christian reasons.

The reason why I call it 'white knighting' is that there seems to be this uncritical adoration of the LGBT community while ignoring many of it's faults. Instead of treating LGBT as people, this community and it's members are elevated to such a degree that rarely any other group ends up getting. it's not so much equal treatment as it is special treatment, even to the point of being hesitant of pointing out dangerous behaviors (such as gay and bisexual males being half of all new HIV cases from male sex) for risk of sounding like a 'bigot.'

I know it is meant well, but all of this special treatment isn't helping. In fact, it can be hurting because it nurtures bitterness and a victim mentality. It creates an 'Us versus Them' and encourages estrangement from family if they are religious, and fosters an unhealthy sensitivity to the comments and opinions of other people.

I'm not saying to ignore true bigotry, but the bigotry that is the most dangerous kind often is the one that demeans the gay person and tells them they have little worth, that in just having the feelings or temptations (even if not acted upon) that they are pieces of crap. This is what reduces the person to solely one aspect of their being, but ties their whole worth upon that aspect. It is what I object to in this special treatment, because in a way, it is reducing the LGBT down to their sexuality, instead of looking at them as a whole person. It comes to define who and what they are, especially when it is taken as the main aspect of their identity. You'll see this in folks who equate 'objection to gay sex=they hate me, as I am a gay man.'

I don't ever recall being kittens and sunshine, that sounds sort of sissy to me.
I'd rather be a storm and a giant rampaging lizard.
Who says Liberals have to be warm and fuzzy, yuk.

ditto. i personally think people should only be allowed to have one biological child and if they want more they should adopt/foster, and to have any children in the home at all people should have to go through a long educational/registration process beforehand to qualify--i don't even see reproduction as a right but a privilege, but i know that view is not popular. i think people should have to prove they are capable of caring for children before they are allowed the privilege of creating and being responsible for a life. it's a policy that could all but eliminate child abuse (at least in the family home) if administered properly, but the logistics would be a challenge to set up to say the least and i know most people view reproduction as a human right and would defend it fiercely, so i can't call my ideas on the subject realistic or likely to ever be implemented.

I'd like to know how you and your pal Misslizard think that people can be limited by law on how many children they can have.

Oh yeah.like I haven't heard you say,"If you can't feed then, don't breed them."Do you support spay and neuter clinics for pets?Whats the difference?Should a woman who has done drugs and handed numerous kids over to the state be allowed to breed? What about a dead beat dad who won't pay child support, yet fathers numerous children? The state picks up the tab you know.

Your failure to understand the motivations of others does not make those motivations irrational. If someone believes that homosexuality is sinful, and further believes that marriage is a religious ceremony that they attach great importance to, how does it not follow that they would oppose homosexual marriage as a perversion of their sacred rite? Regardless of how you feel about it, that's a perfectly rational chain of thought in context.

This is the closest thing I found to an argument in this thread (which I have read, painful as it is.) So, if I understand correctly, straight religious people who find homosexuality sinful believe their marriage ceremony is tainted by sinful people participating in their ceremony. This is a little circular as the sinfulness isn't proven, but I don't think religious people have a right to keep marriage to themselves. Marriage is as much a civil union in that it allows for visiting rights in hospitals and inheritance rights. Any sinfulness is irrelevant.

I read it the first time.
So why even bother to say people should only be allowed to have one biological child without the first clue as to how to go about it?

When I had my last child I had my tubes lasered shut,it was reasonable at the time since I was already having a planned c-section.The price I believe at the time was a thousand if you had it done when you were not already open.I believe my cost was a hundred dollars, well spent. This was around twenty five years ago.
If there were free clinics I'm sure lots of women would show up to get fixed,it would be good for the planet and the tax payer.

Last time I checked, no US liberals are forcing gays to get married. So the guy in your link isn't forces to participate in a monogamous relationship if he does not want to.

Any *real* examples?

You completely missed the point. You accuse US Liberals of ignoring overpopulation by breeding, even though they have fewer children than US Conservatives. I just completely and utterly destroyed your *entire* argument. If you had any genuine concern about overpopulation, you would be criticizing Conservatives, not Liberals.

Yes, but how do you go about making it mand-uh-tory? Or are you going to cop out like starvingartist?

I just now went back and found this one:

I bet I can adapt better to Frisco than you could to some ultra-conservaive city in Texas or Utah BTW, old George Carlin should just stick to comedy and leave politics to someone else. I have no use for political commentary, conservative or liberal, from a comedian.

Who would want to adapt to an ultra-conservative community?

I wouldn’t need to work too hard at adapting to an ultra-conservative community. Why would anyone want to adapt to an ultra-liberal community other than out of want for free stuff and a false sense of protection against those hateful conservatives?

Are you going to shake your tail feathers at the Pride parade in Frisco? :P

What kind of pride parade would that be? I hope you’re not trying to express thinly veiled homophobia here. :shameonyou:

You have to sign up at age eighteen for a possible draft, after your second kid,you sign up to be fixed.
As far as living around ultras conservatives,Boone county is just above me.
What's wrong with attending a parade for happy people?I'd go if I was there.Sounds like fun.My daughter had some awesome pics from the last one.

Ah, so you want to make it compulsory to undergo surgery. To tell a woman what she HAS to do with her body, in other words.
And if they don't and are observed to be preggers or a 3rd child is born, what then?

The men have to do it also ,snip, snip. Of course some people slip through any plan.
They can be fixed in the hospital after second child, men also.
If there are no benefits for a third child, they most likely won't want to have once.Unless the are like the Duggars, bet they are conservative.
