When I meet a racist I don't know the root of his prejudice. Perhaps his sister was raped by a black person, or someone in the family generations ago that perpetuated this belief.
I doubt its that deep. More likely mom and dad taught their kids.

Someone antisemitic person may have never actually interacted with a jewish person and has been fed antisemitic propaganda and superstition since birth..
It's interesting that anti-semitism is even common in non-European countries. I did some contract work in the University of Malaya back in the early 1990s and the then muslim vice-chancellor of that university commonly made anti-Israeli comments as he supported a Palestinian state, but to my ears his comments sounded anti-Semitic (e.g. the jews did this...).
Ironically the founder of the University Malaya is one Professor Oppenheimer...a Jew...who's name is emblazoned over the main chancellory hall where students stand to receive their graduation scrolls.
So getting back to your earlier point many people don't know who Jews are. I am fairly sure many an anti-semite man has spent hours watching movies with jewish actors.
