It is not just incorrect use of a term it is an incorrect use of a concept. This is isn't always accidental IMO.

If I were part of that environment then, I would work to change that so people wouldn't use the concept incorrectly, because it is beneficial in therapeutic settings and that shouldn't be ignored or set aside because some people with an agenda are using it wrong. Instead, the people using it incorrectly should be corrected. But as it is, I don't feel like I have any power to change what people in academia are doing.

wilburforce the context we talkign about, is pretty much like Wolfram87 described e.g. language and concept being triggering. Also specific people being triggering becuase they have views they don't like.

I would advise against anyone using the term "trigger warning".

"The following involves a detailed account of childhood sexual abuse" would be a better way.

Why would it be better, if it conveys the same information as "Trigger warning: childhood sexual abuse"? It sounds like you are simply offended by the trendy language.

It doesn't quite happen that way. Say for instance the make a claim that women have a harder time getting recruited after graduation than men, whether it is true or not. Then then make a claim that black women have an even harder time getting recruited to bolster those cliams (I have heard this on WP). What is being overlook in black men or black people in general, which can have tougher time still and can be statistically slight harder for black men.

I only see discussions that don't include men when the conversation is specifically about women. Most other times, the difficulties of men (particularly black men, but often other groups - white heterosexual men, white gay men, black gay men, Asian heterosexual men... etc, etc) are also included. You might not like it, but having conversations be specifically about women sometimes is not a bad thing; we have conversations specifically about men all the time in the culture at large.

Quote:
Even when it is an issue that doesn't involve women, they have in the past genderised the issue an seen in terms of the patriarchy, becuase that is popular catch-all theory for everything.

It's not illegitimate to point out that, for example, it is patriarchal gender norms that were overcome when feminists (!) finally won the fight to change the FBI definition of rape so that men are now included as potential victims. Prior to that, male victims of rape had no legal place in FBI databases. It was also feminists who fought to allow women on the front lines of battle, contra the patriarchal idea that women cannot fight, which takes some of the pressure off of men, and feminists who are now fighting to include women in the draft (despite MRAs moaning left and right about the gender bias here, they're doing didly squat about it), and feminists who fought to get women into the work place, taking some of the financial pressure off of men, and feminists who battle gender norms that say that men can't express emotion or care for children, and feminists who say that men are not all sex-crazed animals with no self-control and thus no responsibility for their actions, but should be held to reasonable human standards of conduct.

Tell me, what have the MRAs done for you lately?
Quote:
Then we had the university protest where quite privilege student of colour (in comparison to poorer un educated ethic minorities an whites), were demanding something not unlike the segregation that used to exist in education an public life. I sure they didn't intend way but that is what in affect they were arguing for in order to feel "safe". I'm afraid those concept have their origin in section of the feminist movement. They are an affront to basic rights and freedoms. So this is how intersectionality can back fire.

Some ideas are just bad all round an are worthy of criticism whoever is pushing them.

I find the recent reports of some of the university protests disturbing in how anti-free-speech they seem to be. On the face of them, they seem too stupid to be real; I will say that, on the face of them, I agree with you on that point but I suspect that there's more to the story that isn't being heard or said, and/or that the reporting is being deliberately distorted in order to generate outrage over the stupidity of the demands.

How about this, we ban all air conditioners world wide so that way all lads and lasses have to work in 45 degree celsius weather with no ventilation and sweat like crazy and suffer heat stroke equally because air conditioners are sexist, as for the Piv thing yes these rad fems take it seriously so if your a heterosexual man having consensual sex with a woman its rape.

No-one has said either the use or invention of air conditioners is sexist. The matter is about the room temperature of offices where IIRC a study found 1) women were more likely to feel the cold and 2) thermostats were more likely to be set at a temperature comfortable to men than to women. This is actually an interesting point - to me, anyway - and a problem to be solved.

It's not unlike the way some cinemas have 'autistic friendly' screenings where they keep the lights up and sound low.

Why would I give two hoots for what rad fems think? There's far more concerning batshit ideas already in popular political circulation in society that have a detrimental effect on my life. A few feminists who think consensual piv sex is rape and want a separatist arrangement - that's not going to happen, is it? I may as well give my thought to what the flat earthers want.

You seem to enjoy being outraged by this stuff. There's a common criticism nowadays about people being addicted to outrage - the cliche of the 'social justice warrior'. By my reckoning, the people addicted to being outraged at this outrage outnumber the SJWs.

It must be late where you are. Go to bed.
Have you not read the title of the thread? The topic is about these radical feminists aka femnazis for short. Class is in session, pay attention to teacher or its off to detention for you, and no recess! :shameonyou:

I think he objects to the whole concept of "triggering", which is widely expanding to an ever greater number of topics. It reinforces this idea that there's something wrong with discussion that makes people uncomfortable, so much that they require a warning label, and can create a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. "Trigger warning" is also a bit of a shibboleth, usually indicating someone who's going to earnestly use words like privilege and mansplain, which people looking to be taken seriously may wish to avoid.

Well, it's meant to be "tongue in cheek"(most of the time) . I come across differently in text. Not so much telling people what to do, just hate to see one of us get upset, when you just know that's what the provocateurs want.

The provocateurs are content to infer and insert whatever emotional state best suits their narrative, no matter the intended tone of your response. They'll be happy either way, so I pay them no heed. Or perhaps put another way - I'm not in the business of feeding trolls.

It occurs to me that you may have mistakenly filed me into the category of "angry". One might construe that I would therefore consider you among the provocateurs, based on the previous paragraph. However, I suggest instead that you consider this a good reason not to concern yourself with the hypothetical emotional states of others on a web forum, unless explicitly stated. After all, one would not wish to be misunderstood, no?

Feminism let alone Radical feminism would not be needed or come to rise if the rest of the world let alone modern society before becoming religious followed http://www.irishcentral.com/roots/-irel ... 62681.html. In A way Brehon laws were feminism before it ever existed and in a good way and really was equal. Half my ancestry and your welcome.Women, like men, were Brehons. Brehon Laws have a reputation among modern scholars as rather progressive in their treatment of women, with some describing the law as providing for equality between the sexes. This was long before the concept of feminism, this is my bloodline but thanks to religiartards it was wiped out long ago they did not like it.

^I hate it when that happens. You spend all of this time fisking a post, and then the CAPCHA pops up and your writing gets lost somewhere in the mix, or the connection breaks, or whatever. *Super* annoying.

I find when that happens to me, if I use the <- "Go back one page" button in my browser toolbar I can get back to the screen where I typed in my response and the text will still be there, and then I can just go through the submit process again and it usually works after that, no work lost.

Ancient Celtic laws rivaled and surpassed feminism beliefs, without religion getting in the way women would still be equal to men be able to divorce and run a country and manage land equal to that of a man, all which was unheard of by most cultures and even modern day standards. Women were able to go into battle side by side with men.

What, all thirty-eight of them?

Anyway, is this straightforward projection apropos of nothing, or did a 'rad femnazi' just politely decline your offer of coffee?

^ So why care? They hardly represent the female majority. If you actually come across these people, just avoid them. Don't engage with stupidity.

There are plenty of unacknowledged sexist things that the average woman does that annoy me, and that men still do to women that annoy me, but I won't let fruitcakes like fem extremists get me down.

And I won't listen to bitterness from men about it either. We as sane people need to see PEOPLE first, not what, who...and anyone else who can't see past the what, we shouldn't waste our time on, unless they are willing to reconsider their views.
