Another one passed over in my exile.

ruveyn - that take on the pyramids actually is going to force me into thought sometime today - a rather novel take that does not instantly sort into trash or treasure.

Marse Perroquito, I quote THIS one because it excellently exemplifies my response.

A. Where the topic is one about which I have thought extensively and come to an examined and reexamined and considered conclusion, I may well find a copy of last year's handout, dust it and pass it over without fresh thought.

B. Where the topic is clearly not intended to be serious and does not pull in any serious issues I will often respond with parallel low-thought content jest.

C. If the topic - even if posted in jest - raises a serious new issue, or presents important data new to me, or indicates that the poster is sincere with a very different dataset and methodology, I WILL think, either before answering or documenting my process while answering.

In Canada they don't.

I think on most issues, most people find something that is both emotionally attractive and logically computable and make that their stance on that issue... and when they have a few positions that swing right or left, they tend to explore and in many ways consider the validity of those other positions that their ideological drift has approved of. The rest of their life is spent in pursuit of reinforcing opinions for their side, and against the other.

The only time open, non-partisan thought is involved are on things they haven't thought about very much, or haven't gotten enough clarity on, but... if the clerics of the of their ideological side are supportive or call foul, they are quick to regurgitate pundit spin until they can put their own personal twist on it... or in other words: feel like the author of it. Most on the left and on the right hate the other side enough where no thought is necessary in taking a position... so long as your position is the opposite of the opposition.

Their emotional allegiance to their side makes it difficult to deviate too far from their side. Even on issues that they have no emotional or intellectual investment in...

It also makes it difficult that these connections in our brains(assumptions) often help craft our understanding of the world, and the world makes sense once these assumptions have been accepted. It is terribly difficult to undo... which is unfortunate because you can no longer communicate clearly or effectively with your polar opposite, but for the individual, it is extremely helpful in making sense of life.

I wonder how this is affected by aspergers though... if it does at all.
