The reason I'm not one for constitutional carry is simple. Would you trust every single person you've ever met in your life to have a loaded gun on them?

Here in the U.S. of A we like to at least think of ourselves as innocent until proven guilty. It's not up to me to trust everyone with a loaded gun. Even the CCW law does not guarantee someone without a permit won't carry a piece anyway. I'm of the mindest of being ready to protect myself instead of relying on a law protecting me.
Anyhow, you reside in Canada so constitutional carry will probably never come into play for you.....

*shrug*

It's not a huge deal to me because, as Raptor said, the chances of it ever coming in to play in my life are quite low. I just think it's stunned to allow every single person of age to carry a gun no matter how unstable, stupid, or irresponsible they are.

What you should look at is what states adopted Constitutional carry and what if any changes in their crime rates occurred. I think Vermont was the first to go that way, and if I recall nothing terrible happened. Since we actually have examples of states where this policy is law and seems to be working, your objection seems to be falling into the old "it works in practice, but will it work in theory?" category. No insult intended, gun laws and their effects are often pretty counter-intuitive.

I honestly with every state in the union was like AZ where you don't need a CCW to pack heat. Even so, the woman in the article I originally linked to didn't even need a CCW! All she needed was a shotgun, and preferably one with a 6 round magazine. Shotguns are awesomely lethal at close range; making them idea for home defense.

True, it just seems like a terrible idea to me in general. My fears do appear to be unfounded, but my logic fails me here.

If my memory serves correctly, Vermont allows its citizens to carry a concealed firearm without a license.

What a loaded question. It isn't a matter of trusting every single person, it's about trusting them more often than not. And yes I think most people who are old enough to carry a gun aren't simple children.

Isn't firearm possession in the USA a self-fueled necessity perhaps even a fear? Others have one so I need one, just in case?

The country where I live in have different laws concerning firearms, I am glad it hasn't got similar laws as the USA since it wouldn't help when people get emotional (when do we not?) and might do things they later regret. Things like self-control exist since we humans as a whole aren't that controlled by our own rationale as much as we think or wish we were. Our behaviour isn't 100% accurately predictable at all times and not all people are responsible gun owners (not even speaking of consistency).

Even with the laws in my country firearms are obtainable through illegal ways or getting a permit and surprise checks by the firearms inspection, but that hurdle prevents from the average person from acquiring one, just in case - to risky and too much hassle. Not to speak of no cultural support concerning firearms.

Besides, carrying a ranged weapon doesn't solve the problems with hate crimes, honor killing, etc.. at most it gives getting out alive a bigger chance (assuming the victim carries a firearm 24/7 at a quickly reachable place on her/his body and has the skill to wield it). Beside the assailants chances are improved by her/him wielding one, since he/she can open the conflict at range.
The flip-side of this is increases tension in society of everybody potentially having a lethal firearm on hands, increase in crimes using a firearm, more firearm-related deaths, more accidents with firearms, etc..

But as said earlier, the gun culture is entrenched in the USA, banning them isn't going to work. Though I think phasing-out might.

Do tell us what weapons make guns obsolete. And furthermore, please put such devices to the test IRL against someone with a gun.

Two wrongs don't make a right. "People are doing bad things, so lets shoot them! That's fair and just, right?"

Yeah... Seems legit.

i also think that there would be a lot less social unrest and a lot more safety if everyone owned lots of firearms.
