Oddly enough, the war on drugs, whether meant to be or not is actually a scapegoat. The percentage of drug users has never changed at all from the time when it was all legal, and Coca-Cola was good. A had a friend that just recently died from an overdose of perscription meds. Most drugs for people actually might as well be a placebo. The real users are going to find a way to get a fix regardless of anything. It is the natural way of things for some people. O.k. ALOT of people. Cannabinoids being the only one I have heard of that is impossible to overdose on. Due to the fact that there is up to 32 different ones in any one dose. If there is too many, one cancelles itself out from the other. People don't die from canniboid overdoses. To even put cannibinoids in the OP with overdosed meds is a conundrum. Or a farse.

I agree that its a scapegoat. Alot of politicians are also not willing to sacrifice their position by suggesting legalisation. I wonder whether legalisation is more profitable for the government than prohibition. Prohibition seems to be all loss financially.

" I wonder whether legalisation is more profitable for the government than prohibition."

It certainly is more profitable for the prison guards union. They contribute vast sums of money, far more than anyone else, and back much legislation designed to send more and more people to prison AND to keep them there for a longer time. It puts money directly in the union's (and guard's) pockets. Talk about a conflict of interest.

I have a prison guard for a neighbor. He wants it legal just like most everyone who knows what is going on. It is not a problem. It is the best drug out there for a habitual drug user. What I mean by drug user is something like this. Ever notice that a smoker can be in prison for 15 years. Completely away from the drug nicotine. The first thing he craves when he gets out is nicotine, and he lights up. It is NOT the drug. It is the person. These things cannot be made to change. You take away all the drugs in the world, people will resort to things under the kitchen sink. They will make their own. This war on drugs. This definition of drugs is a corruption of human society. A complete conundrum. A riddle. It is a waste. An un-understandable truth created by the ones who believe they are drug free. They lie to themselves, and believe they are better than others while they stand idly by in a balroom full of friends drinking alcohol, and smoking cigars. It is sick.

If the drug habit is dependent on the person who can't resist drugs, how would you classify such a person?

Are they born with a physical dependency? Possibly an addicted mother?

Or do you believe this is part of their mental makeup and years of reinforcement? I do not say "criminal reinforcement" because all addicts are not criminals.

I am unable to mentally link your ideas with any common disease or condition which is not available for treatment. I doubt there is "anything" not subject to change.

P.S. I smoked (like a chimney) 2 packs a day)until the age of 40  but do not feel like your "prisoner" example.

You may not like the sound of this, but I would classify a person who cannot resist drugs as a human being. It is an essential part of our genetic makeup to not just need, but to invent, explore, open the mind to the unknown, and share those experiences.

In a positive nature, I do not believe there is a need to have a treatment, or call it a disease, or a condition. It just is.

You chose to quit. I did the same. I wanted to. I commanded it. There are many reasons why people are, or become dependant. Some are natural, some are not. Some are recreational. Shamans have been doing it for over 15,000 years. Possibly forever. In this respect, it is not bad. It can be enlightening. My neurological disorder led me to drug use for a long time. No different from perscription medication in my book. Reality was a difficult thing for me to deal with for a very long time. I had no legal support stucture. In many ways I am thankful for that. I was also a victim of narcissistic abuse. I'm sure that had something to do with it too. I know, or have known people who are just in what I like to call self destruct drug use. It never ends for them, and you cannot make it stop. They have to want to. Trying to get them out of it usually has negative effects. Most I know turn to legal alcohol. A nasty chronic addiction.

Hope this answers something for you?

I've heard success stories of Doctors using entheogenic substances to treat opioid addictions, or of people using marijuana to help them overcome their own opioid addictions.

I watched a documentary a while back about a Doctor in British Columbia who was using ayahuasca to help treat people with drug/alcohol addictions and he was quite successful. Unfortunately the government made him stop because it wasn't an approved treatment, obviously, even though I don't think ayahuasca is technically illegal here. I'm not sure how they could make something like DMT illegal, since it pretty much exists inside every living thing, but that's how we roll I guess. :)

Psychedelics really shouldnt be illegal. Theyre not addictive for the vast majority of people (correct me if im wrong) andtheyre pretty much harmless. I know there is alot of crossover though. Isn't ketamine considered a psychedelic? Ive heard of people injecting the stuff. 8O which would lead me to conclude that it is somewhat addictive.

I really think that legalisation is the only way to go. The only alternative is forcing people to submit to urine tests at random and imprisoning users. How successful do you think that would be ?

Why would something being inject-able make it addictive? from my understanding it can make effects work quicker/stronger....therefore I can think of some senerios having nothing to do with addiction where that aspect might be appealing. For instance if someone is in extreme pain due to an injury in a hospital should they really give the person a pill that take a while to kick in or inject them with something for more immediate effects?

I've also heard of people injecting LSD, well someone told me they did and it just made the trip come on quicker and more intense, whereas usually it takes a half hour to an hour to start experiencing the effects. And pretty sure LSD is not addictive....

Lol they could just build a gigantic prison that takes up a couple whole states and send all the drug users, drug addicts and anyone who's even thought of using a drug and stick them there.....but not so sure the public would stand for that.

One thing is for sure. The way modern people use, and explain drugs is pritty square. I try not to do that.

I was referring more to users who started normal dosing and progressed to IV use because they werent getting the desired effects. Their usage became more and more frequent and the method of use became more and more direct.

I dont know though.... you'd have to be very dedicated or obsessed to an unhealthy degree to consider injecting any substance surely. Isn't that a serious taboo for most people?

Well I've never done that, but I guess I never really saw it as anything taboo...I mean don't they have people on IV pain killers in hospitals? And people don't see that as taboo. Now granted IVing something to get high is obviously not due to 'needing' a quicker onset/stronger effect more wanting it...well unless of course they are so heavily addicted they'll have horrible withdrawls if they wait any for instance.

But I guess hypothetically I think one who is not addicted to anything could try substances that way here and there, and I wouldn't see that as taboo, however if one likes the quality of their skin and blood veins they might not want to be using that as their main method of ingestion obviously. I would say of the various ways to take drugs that would be one of the most dangerous since it increases the risk of overdose for one. Though people who do find that taboo should be glad you can't do that with marijuana.

You probably could inject cannibinoids or THC. If they have nasal sprays and brownies I dont see why an IM/IV form wouldn't work.

They've done research where they've injected THC into malignant tumours to shrink them so I would imagine that is possible, although I'm not sure what one would do to make it into an inject-able form.

I wonder how long it will be before hardcore stoners start doing this... that'll demonise cannabis

Well, as far as I know, they HAVEN'T been doing that for thousands of years, so I don't see why anyone would want to start. Most of your average pot smokers would see no reason to do that, I would think.

I heard that they used vaporisers in the hospital. IV could probably work (and have higher absorbtion than through lungs) but I'd think that feels more invasive to the patient. Absorbtion through the lungs is pretty quick too, you pretty much immediately feel the effects. This also gives more control to the patient. And weed is pretty cheap to produce compared to many other medicines, so a lesser absorption probably won't matter.

If they where isolated I guess there is that possibility, but then not sure a single cannabanoid alone isolated and extracted and made into an inject-able form could really be considered marijuana let alone say synthetic versions of specific cannabanoids and obviously it would have to be made into a form that is not plant matter I'd think. I mean injectable opiates aren't opium....though derived from it more or less. But actually they have thc pills that have been prescribed but most people find it to be too much and unpleasant and some other evidence also suggests cannabis in plant form is most effective....not isolating a specific cannabanoid like THC or making a synthetic version of it.

You really need to experience more drug use in order to understand what the heck is going on. The effects are different, and it is regulated the best if it is smoked. Nasal sprays pills brownies are not the same.

I made pot butter once and used it in a batch of rice crispy bars. It was a horrible body high. I did not like it at all.

I think hardcore stoners would laugh at the idea....knowing that for one its entirely unnecessary, if you really need a 'rush' just take a big ass bong or steam roller hit that'll hit you like a train(in a good way of course ) even sprinkle some hash in if desired. Besides I'd think a hardcore stoner would know the plant as a whole works best, not isolated THC.

I do not think there is any way to make cannabis as a whole into an inject-able form, to my knowledge you cannot really inject plant matter...even the hash oil that's almost liquid would likely be far to thick and potentially lead to death by clogging blood veins, so I just don't see it happening.
