I'm not against science, I support science wholeheartedly. But scientism is another story altogether.

You consider "scientism" anything which disagrees with your religious views on the natural world.

I've never said that nor think that, so those are your words and not mine.

You have in this thread claimed the theory of evolution is wrong and that geology is wrong, both of which are scientific

Nope, I said the the uniformitarianisitic model of geology is a poor hypothesis compared to catastrophistic models of geology and that the general theory of evolution is a poor explanation for the origin of phyla, which it is just as abiogenesis is a poor explanation for the origin of life.

People like you see fit to try and run my life through laws. Christians project their beliefs on others "for their own good", a lot of the time.

As such, it is essentially my mission to eradicate christianity through educating the delusional believers.

Lame. You're doing a crappy job of "educating the delusional believers" if all you ever do is insult them, but I suppose that's the norm of public schooled "intelligentsia" now. You think you're going to do anything other than put people on the defensive by asserting your own dogma and ridiculing theirs? Sorry, all you're doing is causing silence for your own psychological benefit. I am a Christian, but even I can respect the atheists who bother with civil discussion about the subjects rather than so much stupid childish mockery.

Why what? Why do you want to drag me into a discussion about apologetics when I've stated I don't want to? I haven't a clue.

I asked you to provide your evidence, you have refused so far. This makes it quite difficult to do anything but mock you

Also, you are a bit nuts if you are trying to acuse me of being dogmatic or some kind of "intelligentsia", whatever the heck that means.

If there were actually better explanations for the origin of life and for plate tectonics/geology, why is there no push from inside the scientific community to support them? The only people who seem to actively engage in promoting the pseudoscientific theories you refer to are generally not even involved in any scientific fields

I believe he is asking why you hold the beliefs you do on geology.

Which means, provide evidence to support your theory.

What parakeet needs to understand is, one can believe that the earth is more than a mere six thousand years old, and still be a Christian - even a doctrinally conservative Christian. The fact of the matter is, an overly literal interpretation of the Bible - especially when we're talking about the early books of the Bible, as well as Revelations at the end - you lose the point of what it's all really about.

And God himself adds this qualifier:

With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. - 2 Peter 3:8

Btw, did it ever occur to you that this verse is very odd in the light of the fact that the Hebrews didn't eat pork, and therefore didn't keep pigs as livestock? The swine herd in Mark 5:13, where Jesus exorcises some poor guy who appears to suffer from Tourette or schizophrenia, is even more puzzling.

Why should it be odd or puzzling? If the Hebrews consider pork to be unclean, it makes perfect sense.

Let's presuppose the Hebraic view of Jesus' time. The OT says, I believe in Exodus, that the Lord's intent is for the nation of Israel to be a kingdom of priests. Indeed, skip ahead to the kingdom years foreigners consulted Solomon for his renowned wisdom.

Since foreigners are unclean in relation to the Jews, the swine analogy applies to any Gentile. In particular, the Matthew reference is to swine who not only trample the pearls (wisdom) but tear apart the person offering them.

What is interesting to ME about this passage is it follows "Do not judge..." Since Jesus knew His followers risked persecution to follow Him and because His followers would have opportunities to preach to Romans authorities (analogous to "swine" and "dogs"), He made a point of warning His followers to be careful in how they approach authorities to correct them. "Do not judge" is about justice, and the "speck in your brother's eye" is about correcting those who do wrong. In the eyes of Jewish society, the Romans certainly weren't "brothers." But it wouldn't be above a Christian to consider all people as brothers. For the Jews, sharing their wisdom and correcting their brothers was safe as long as their brothers were open to the message. For a Christian, it would be about being careful who you correct and about also whether the person being corrected is open to correction.

A Christian might be open to the idea of correcting someone in authority, but the authority figure might not be open to correction. It makes more sense to evangelize those who are willing to hear the gospel message than those who are not; indeed, if someone comes across as disrespectful towards authority, EVEN IF HE'S RIGHT, he could end up dead. Being dead, he can do no more good for those who might be receptive to the gospel.
