People who mock the difficulties of others
Maybe.......just maybe, they would pull their head out of their ass and realize that the way they feel is invalid! That, and you shouldn't act based on your feelings. Actions should be based on knowledge, not butt-hurtedness.
Maybe just maybe, others would pull their head out of their ass and realize the way the person feels is valid. Works both ways. And for the record I do my best to act on knowledge rather than hard to control emotions but yes I do slip up sometimes and act impulsively due to hard to manage emotions. Like sometimes I get so angry/frustrated I end up with bleeding knuckles from the things I end up hitting but hey at least I make a point to hit things rather then people or animals.
Emotions should not guide actions, period.
If emotions do not guide actions, what's the point of anything? Why even get out of bed in the morning? If you're hungry, why eat? If you're thirsty, why drink? No emotion = no desire = no reward = no reason to do anything.
That's the thing, no one does give a damn about how you feel. And furthermore, no one should. How presumptuous of you to expect that of others. Your feelings are your own to deal with and yours alone. Why would you expect someone to care about your feelings, when they've got their own to deal with?
Going through life not giving a damn how anyone else feels won't make you many friends and might make you some enemies. Just don't make the mistake of expecting anyone else to give a damn about you or you might just be out of luck.
I wasn't aware that hinger and thirst were emotions.
Looks like my handiwork.
I don't know about that. Your location says you're in the Southeast whereas the person who wrote that is from the North Midwest.
I was joking. A few of our more sensitive brethren say that I’m an insensitive jerk so I thought I’d try and lay claim to it.
The truth is that I’m not creative enough to have created something like that.
Well, I mock your creativity impairment.
lol everything about you is mockable.
Yeah, but at least I don't have a creativity impairment.
I'd hate to see what your idea of creativity is......

It seems you don't even know what emotion is. The psychological discomfort brought on by hunger or thirst is emotional in nature. The desire to quench your thirst is also emotional in nature. A cold drink is exceptionally good when you're extra thirsty. That's emotion.
If you're really a cyborg automaton that never acts on emotion, don't expect other human beings to be just like you. You're the exception to the rule.
Hi JWC,
It's good you sought professional knowledge, but the professional may have not been "Plain English" enough, as your senses of any intellectual and bodily "awareness" appears to be in further decline of also the bone sense in the pregnathal region.
You should verify instructions to seek explanation of you detecting not being with the knowledge of such proper absence of being aware at which end: http://www.wrongplanet.net/postp4287989.html#4287989

[change]Robert Plutchik's theory
This says that the basic eight emotions are:
Fear → feeling afraid. Other words are terror (strong fear), shock, phobia (fear of one thing)
Anger → feeling angry. A stronger word is rage. One can be angry with oneself or with others
Sorrow → feeling sad. Other words are sadness, grief (a stronger feeling, for example when someone has died) or depression (feeling sad for a long time). Some people think depression is a different emotion.
Joy → feeling happy. Other words are happiness, glee (when something good happens to someone. or something bad happens to someone else), gladness.
Disgust → feeling something is wrong or dirty
Acceptance → accepting a situation
Expectation → feeling about something which is going to happen
Surprise → how one feels when something happens quickly or when someone did not think it would happen
[change]Book Two of Aristotle's Rhetoric
This theory says that the emotions are:
Anger, opposite calmness (not feeling excited)
Friendship (Love), opposite enmity (feeling hate)
Fear, opposite confidence (having no fear)
Shame, opposite shamelessness (shame: how one feels about one's past bad actions or thoughts; shamelessness: one does not feel shame, but others think one should.)
Kindness (benevolence), opposite unkindness (kindness: when people are good to other people)
Pity (when people feel sorry for other people)
Indignation (feeling angry because something is not fair, such as undeserved good fortune)
Envy, jealous (pain when people have something that one wishes for oneself)

Still don't see hunger or thirst anywhere on the list. Maybe it is you who does not understand what emotions are.

If you bothered to read I never said that hunger or thirst were emotions in themselves. Unhappiness brought on by unpleasant physical sensations is emotion. As is the desire to end such sensations and induce pleasure through eating or drinking. Notice that "desire", "happiness", and "unhappiness" are in the list. Without "desire", "unhappiness", or "happiness" there would be no reason to eat or drink.
I responded to clear up your deliberate misinterpretation of my earlier post, not to dispute your irrelevant claim that hunger and thirst purely by themselves aren't emotions.

How about survival and the physical pain associated with hunger and thirst?
I don't know about you, but I don't eat to make myself happy; I eat to make myself no longer hungry.
Just a clarification:
I'm not saying that there is not an emotional element to hunger and thirst. What I'm saying is the emotional element isn't the foundation for the necessity to eat or drink.
For instance, a starving person may have a strong emotional desire to gorge themselves at the first opportunity. However, if they did that they would die. Nourishment is a primarily a physical need. Our emotions have simply aligned themselves with that need; the need would still exist even if it were not emotionally satisfying.

I am pretty sure most people do quite a bit more than pursue food and water to combat thirst and hunger....so you cannot expect everyone to go through life as an emotionless robot who's only care in the world is food and water. If it works for you great, but most humans cannot achieve such a state of mind.

Hunger and thirst are just the example that is being used for this discussion, and are by no means considered exclusive.
I'm not claiming you should ignore your emotions, you should simply check to make sure that they align with reality before you consider them as valid. Just because you feel something doesn't make it true. Just because something is true doesn't mean you can feel it.

Well why didn't you just say that? besides if someone is going through major difficulties negative emotions would be aligning with reality....so mocking someone for these difficulties on the basis of their emotions not aligning with reality would make no sense.

Since when were we talking about mocking people based on their emotions?
This thread is about emotions guiding actions. It's been hijacked, where you been?

I really don't know about that. I'd be curious to see a brain imaging study. I'd be willing to bet the amygdala is active during any activity where there's an internal perception of conscious choice. The emotional center is a very primitive region of the brain shared by all vertebrates of the animal kingdom. If emotions did not serve a primary purpose of motivating survival and reproductive behaviors I don't think they'd be quite so prevalent.
