When I first met them her step-mom said "well he seems nice but theres one thing going against him". Luckily i was not present. They wanted to also bring me to church (and skip my job) and convert me -.-

But they have this discomfort around me DESPITE the fact that I am the reason the girl is still alive (i care not to go into specific details about that). I obviously make the girl happy, so I find it interesting how they put their faith over their god damned child! But this guy doesnt have a track record much better than mine either:
*pre-marital sex
*divorce
*adultery
*fooling around with a 17 year old online while married to his ex-wife and blaming it on the stress of his daughter's autism diagnosis

He's 47 and his wife is 27! lolololololol wat is she thinking

You might consider faking an interest in her church.

You might consider taking an interest in an entirely different girlfriend.

look at the above, if a long heated discussion (with likely pent up anger forever after as a result) isnt your thing,
then think you have two options, faking it or breaking it.

Once you've successfully feigned an interest in their church, you can have loads of fun rebuking them for their sins.

Wee Coryl's parents disapproved of me because I was an academic and a Thinker and totally strange to them - I would not even drop my career and get a REAL job.

Wherefore I say to you:

Can the young lady think for herself? If she had to choose between you and them, which way would she go? Does SHE need you to change?

wee Coryl told me : "NEVER ask me to choose between you and them". They eventuially told her to choose and she did.

My brother's girlfriend's parents disapproved of him [does it run in the family?]. They told her, "If you dump him we will buy you the horse you want." She dumped him [good riddance, though it did sting].

If she is onto YOU not them, go for it. Go to church or not as you choose - I doubt that would end their distaste and demamnds, but that is up to you.

If she puts THEM first, shake her hand, nice knowing you, and walk. You will meet a much better fit and a real relationship.

Gold-digging step-mom thinks what? Who cares, the dad didn't marry her for her thoughts.

Urging someone to be hypocritical is evil and demonic [think about it] especially in the areas of love and religion.

Belief is a fraud anyway. If he were to pretend he wouldn't be any less genuine than half of the people in that church.

I don't even care which church it is. In my experience that's always true no matter.

If a person doesn't act as though they believe something, then they don't believe it. Black and white. Lip service is the most most are willing to give - and for good reason.

Do you believe what you just said, or is that a fraud?

How do you know what the people in that church bdelieve? Have you been there?

So, good. I wish I had had that back when. All you got to ask yourself, can you talk - REALLY talk - to her? Can you be just plain comfortable with her?

Does the girl live with her mom or her dad? I wouldn't be surprise if much of the reason for her supposed troubles is coming from living with her dad.

If I honestly believed that there was some creepy all powerful alien watching me (and it is technically an alien - if it created the earth then it wouldn't be of the earth) offering me eternal joy for living up to some random ethical code - I would have no problem walking on my hands and quacking like a duck until the day I died. Or I wouldn't have a problem if I believed that and took the alien's side. But anyway.

Do I believe in what I just said? Not on faith, but I consider it to be likely enough so as to be said with certainty.

I believe the sun will come up tomorrow. If it doesn't I'll be shocked. I believe that enough heat will tend to make water boil at sea level. Thus I act as if these things are true.

People like to think there will be an afterlife, but very few act in accord with that. 1+1=2. And that's all she wrote.

You see the evidence that most people are athiests every time you attend a funeral. Every time you see how to articles in popular rags explaining the best ways to commit adultery. Every time people walk over one another in order to get that toy at christmas or that promotion at work.

And it's not a bad thing. People are more rational than they would like to admit.

I am over my quota for combatting takataka today.

So I cut this short - I just was at a funeral, buddyboy. Yes, I saw who was atheist and who was not.

And one of the children of the subject of the funeral has been reading her journals and is starting to rethink atheism.

More rational than they admit? Lord, you have a long way to go. Most people I meet are much less rational than they pretend.
