If you don't know how to use it, it's counter-productive.

I can simplify it:

Guns for self defence because s**t happens. There are people out there who will attack other people.

Although what Tea said is correct. People need to basic gun safety and have some aiming skill at a bare minimum before they should be able to carry a gun.

Guns are pretty simple to use(once they're loaded lol). Just point, aim, and shoot.

Uh... do you own a gun?

Better question... have you ever fired a gun?

Evidently not. Too many people just buy one thinking the mere ownership of it will protect them.

If I ever see you coming with a gun I'm running.

As you should.

But TEG's comment is pretty much stating the obvious.

Yes, I know that. Trust me, I could write a volume on that alone but I don't have the inclination to go too deep into the subject.

In a video game maybe.

There is probably a higher chance you will become depressed and commit suicide with your gun than there is that someone will try to murder you. Plus, aren't we already paranoid enough as a society?

If you'd like to take your chances, feel free. That doesn't mean any one else wants to take that risk.

The problem with a gun is that its introduction to a conflict instantly escalates the situation to the highest level it can go. There's no further negotiation, no possibility of less-damaging force; it's 'do as I say, or die.'

Wrt the gun lobby: why is it legally more dangerous to maim someone using a knife or martial arts skills, than it is to maim them with a gun?
