I've been watching the trial, and was wondering what people thought about the whole Trayvon Martin incident? Is Zimmerman innocent or guilty?

Honestly, I think he's not guilty; that being said, however, I don't think he's going to get a fair trial at all. Everything's stacked against him.

At first, I was thinking Zimmerman was guilty.. the media created a huge buzz around the whole ordeal. Then I kept seeing reports of bias, for instance how news stations kept photoshopping Zimmerman to look white, and circulating photos of Trayvon from 5+ years ago.. like they were trying to manufacture the controversy to sell more newspapers, gain more viewers. I'm leaning more towards Zimmerman as being not guilty due to self-defense, but I'm trying to stay open-minded as if I were a juror.. as the trial proceeds, what new witnesses and evidence may come about. I'm interested to find out the impending verdict though.

I have to say that the 911 call made by George Zimmerman prior to the death of Trayvon Martin puts Zimmerman at a severe disadvantage. He was *chasing* Martin.

From what I can remember, Martin was minding his own business. Zimmerman got over zealous.becase there was a black boy walking down a sidewalk in a rich, white neighborhood. Typical southern racism.

The neighborhood was/is not all-white. Zimmerman himself is part Hispanic (mother was Peruvian, IIRC), and one of the prosecution's witnesses, who lived in a town home next to where events took place, is black.

The media keep repeating that this happened in a "gated community," conjuring up in many people's minds an image of mansions surrounded by walls and protected by gates and security guards at the entrances. Fact of the matter is, there were no manned gates; anyone could walk or drive through the neighborhood, and there was a mix of socioeconomic and racial types living there. If Zimmerman was indeed motivated by racism against blacks, he'd have been calling the police every time one of his (many) non-white neighbors was outdoors.

Guilty. The phone call, the pictures showing little proof he was attacked, the money and passports he hid, his Christmas fund raiser...They are scream look at me and give me money.

Essentially, the two got into a fist fight instigated by the both of them. Ideally, both would have lived and both should have gone to jail for a few days.

Zimmerman was losing so he drew his handgun and killed Martin. That is murder and he should go to prison.

If Martin had killed Zimmerman, then Martin would have been the one who should have gone to prison.

Also, while it is possible to die from being hit in a fist fight, it is relatively uncommon. Zimmerman had no justification for believing that he had to use lethal force to save his own life.

While I believe that any person should be allowed to use force - even deadly force - in self-defense, I also believe that Mr. Zimmerman murdered an unarmed person for no other reason than hateful bigotry.

I believe that Mr. Zimmerman should be found guilty of the First-Degree Murder of Trayvon Martin.

I'm really tired of hearing about Southern racism. As if people of color don't get murdered anywhere else. And I think Zimmerman is guilty, and I'm from the South. Please stop making blanket assumptions about all Southerners.Maybe you are prejudiced against us.
How many people of color are getting gunned down in Chicago??I believe that city is up North.

I don't think that matters that much if he didn't initiate physical contact, as it's generally not illegal just to follow someone. Murder is just ridiculously hard to prove in this situation, manslaughter really would have been the more appropriate charge.

has anyone here actually heard court certified testimony? If not, how can you make a judgement about Zimmerman's guilt or innocence? That is why we have -trials in court, overseen by a Judge-.

your uninformed opinions on the matter are worthless both legally and morally.

@Ruveyn: You're right, of course. No one can actually know the facts unless they were actually there when it happened; but that does not stop people from forming and expressing their own opinions, no matter how irrational those opinions may be.
