The theory of evolution does not try to explain the origin of life anymore than the theory of gravity attempts to explain the origin of the universe.

The theory of evolution is about the way that species are transformed into other species.

As for the theory of gravity, best known as the General Theory of Relativity, it is a vital part of understanding the early universe, but you also need other physics such as Quantum Mechanics.

So your comment is like saying that Biology does not explain Geology.

He obviously means Newton's theory of gravity, and not the later stuff by Einstein.

Even so, it doesn't mean evolution didn't happen, and isn't still happening. I myself am a theistic evolutionist, and so I see God as the author of evolution.

Cosmology is our attempt to explain the origin of our physical universe, and no one who knew anything at all about gravity would make such a basic error. "Evolution" is about life, it is centred in it, and the fact that it cannot account for how the process got going in the first place says a lot about this erroneous theory.

On second thoughts, didn't Stephen Hawking at one point in time try to explain "The Big Bang" via reference to gravity? Wasn't it in his book A Brief History of Time? Will have to look into it.
