This is just the start of making environmental changes.

What have you done?

Well, I haven't been influenced by environmental activism which is irrelevant in my particular area...
That's what I've done...

As in carbon dioxide emissions, pressure "should" be brought to bear on those main offenders who have alternate views, rather than countries whose contributions are virtually non-existant by comparison and simply engage in virtue signalling to show how wonderfully moral and conscientious they are...

My understanding is that a major contributor to the problem of plastic pollution in the oceans are the south Asian counties...
May I suggest we start a petition to put pressure on the main offenders?
I would say that would be a worthy contribution towards saving the world...

I haven't used virtue-signalling in over a month.

I pick up trash off the trail when I'm hiking, left by idiots who have no business being out there in the first place.

It's kind of sad though if people need to be guilt-tripped into basic civilised behaviour...

But is this "not using virtue signalling" that you just signalled in itself a virtue? Oh... but then maybe I'm now virtue-signalling by signalling that I wouldn't virtue-signal by signalling that I'm not virtue-signalling, and, and... :skull:

(I said "virtue" and "signal..." too many times now - are they still real words? )

@BenderRodriguez: yes, it's a shame, but hey - whatever works!

And to answer the OP's question: Nothing that I wouldn't usually do - as ollychan put it, having to live frugally often reduces one's direct and proxy CO2-emissions/pollution/resource-demand by default. Virtue from necessity, so to speak.

Big companies like Nestle, Coca Cola and Pepsico are also very big offenders I suspect south asian countries don't have a very good waste infrastructure plus the west has been sending their plastic waste to china for quite some time. They have found coke bottles, nestle water bottles and pepsi bottles on various shores around the world. The entire world has to address the problem not just south asia.

I haven't bought a carrier bag for years , In Wales they started charging 5p for them back in 2011 , I'd rather play Crackerjack's double or drop with my items than pay 5p  .

Doing my best not to use plastic bags, I could do better though...I do take the bags I do use back to the grocery store to put in their plastic bag recycling. But it would certainly be best not to use them at all.

I have also been at least showing my support to putting pressure on corporations to stop producing so many plastic bottles. I mean cans and glass bottles work just fine...why do they need to keep pumping out plastic bottles? Studies have even proven drinks in plastic bottles get plastic particles in them.

I mean my understanding is the problem has gotten big enough that recycling cannot solve it unless we also stop producing so much plastic to begin with. It will likely take years to clean up what is already here...so if it keeps being manufactured at the same rate there will be no way for clean up/recycling efforts to catch up.

I avoid nestle, coca cola and pepsi products...but consumer boycott is not enough, and lets be real how many people are going to boycott their beloved sugary sodas? I just don't see that creating enough pressure to make those companies change their ways.

I use a plastic bag all the time... but it's the same plastic bag. It's beginning to fall apart now but it should be good for another couple of months.

It's a complex problem, though. I suspect most of us do very well in some areas but fall short in others.
