Do you believe an earthquake is sent to punish people's sins

It does make my blood boil that even in the 21st century there maybe still those who believe that when people have died in an earthquake, hurricane or any other natural disaster that it what was sent by God to punish those people for their sins, in the same way the plagues of the 12th and 13th centuries was believed to be sent by God and I remember hearing some evangelists thought that Hurricane Katrina had been sent to punish sinners.

You might be reading this backward.

These are just as often people who took a look outward, saw the chaos and nihilism of being as abyssal, incomprehensible, even antihuman, and either ran back to the religion of their parents or to some religion their parents never had for the sake of sealing the chaos out. The same goes for people hanging on David Icke and Alex Jones's every word.

To the degree that said people have causal power in the world in their capacity to vote is frustrating, but outside of that it's more just a tragic sight.

They are being punished for their faults.

Some people believe such natural disasters are sent by God, to punish or to test people (ever read the book of Job? he had more than his fair share of crap to put up with that was to test him).

Others, believe that disasters are caused by demons, or devils (although this is not particularly scientific and falls within the range of magical thinking, theosophy, and religious thought).

There are also others who believe we are destined to die or suffer.

Hindu, Buddhists etc. also believe in the law of karmic retribution, which for them, is highly complex and linked to many lives of incarnation rather than in simple terms found in the simple terms law of casuality. I.e. I do bad thing, then bad thing happens to me as payment in this life, in some cases instantly.

Buddhists and Hindu'ism have a philosophy of Indra's net, the karmic net that includes all karmic interaction of all entities in existence. Everything in existence can be found on this net and is tied up to karma from many lifetimes and incarnations. So... in their belief, one may die in an earth quake, because of something that one has done in previous lives. Dying doesn't mean the end however, and in some cases may create positive developments, such as being re-incarnated into a more favourable body, family and circumstance.

There are more complex considerations with religions such as Buddhism and Hinduism which i feel are too complex to go into great detail at this point.

Abortion.

Or, same sex marriage.

Those are the two competing go to explanations for anything bad that ever happens in the United States.

The folks assigning those causes as blame are often millionaire televangelists who arent suffering much themselves.

But there IS hope. We elected a POTUS, Trump, who "has done more for Evangelical Christians than any other POTUS in American history". And as a result God rewarded us by...sending a hurricane to Texas, another hurricane to Puerto Rico, and by sending us Covid 19 which kills as many folks a day now, as died in 9-11.

I don't believe earthquakes were sent to punish humanity for their sins.

That's why I was sent.

An earthquake is caused by a sudden slip on a geologic fault.  These events occur at random, and are not "sent".

Incredibly tiny earthquakes, that don't hurt humans and probably don't hurt animals just bring fences down, are fun.

That's the only kind I ever lived through & it was like waking up during a rollercoaster ride lol.
