I find the Atlantean version the most appealing. I have one of three original copies.

I grew up with New Revised Standard Version, but I'm getting an Amplified Bible. That's a pretty neat translation, it includes in parentheses synonyms/duplicate meanings all over the place so that the original sense of the Hebrew and Greek is better preserved. But it's not vey quote-able like the KJV or NRSV, and it takes a little more focus to be able to read and comprehend it.

My mom has one of those, they are useful for understanding the text but you're right in that it sure isn't quotable.

I read the KJV (not the revised). It's more powerful and poetic. However, I read the NIV for its readability, especially for the Old Testament.

Yes, that's what I was referring to. The revised version of KJV has too many commas and rearrangments for me that ruins the rhythm of Tyndale's ingenious translation. A great book on his compelling story in translating the Bible is "God's Bestseller."

Cool, I haven't read that but I'll check it out. I've read Josh MacDowells(?) Evidence That Demands A Verdict, that gives a lot of information on the history of the Bible and how it compares to other historical documents. Have you?

I have the 1611 KJV on E-Sword, so I read it sometimes, like when I'm studying Etymology.

Today's "1611 KJV" is actually the 1769 revision. You literally couldn't read the actual 1611 KJV, as it was written in an English form that was closer to Middle English than modern English. Not the "King's English" you're familiar with.

E-Sword also has various Greek NTs as well as a Hebrew NT too, but that would be a little more difficult to read!
