After 11 years it will not make a difference if cuts to carbon emissions are made. I think that's what the number means.

If we only have 11 years, better scoot over to China and stop their 28% of world CO2 emission.

Oh, wait.
They need to build their military to threaten the world and us in particular. 8O

Species extinction has always happened, apparently, but there is no sign of the Greta style "mass extinction" going on, to my knowledge.
Thankfully, there is still snow in the arctic and the Polar bear population has significantly increased.

Almost every expert in the world is in agreement on a topic w/ the exception of a handful of outliers who seem to have their Alex Jones Edition tinfoil hats on too tight/and or are being paid by someone with a particular financial interest in opposing what's commonly accepted as scientific fact.

To cast a cynical view of this discussion: Until big business finds cutting emissions profitable, nothing will be done.

In addition to alternative energy, the investment in clean emissions technology has also been unsatisfactory because of the reasons you alluded to. Big business has been profiting from fossil fuels and engineering that relies on this primitive fuel source now for a century, Nicola Tesla's work on alternative energy at the turn of the 20th century was never built upon despite laying the foundation for power grids around the world.

Electric car technology is finally being made available but it may be too late. No government has provided efficient incentives for emissions reduction and clean emissions technology in any country. There is no profit for business investing in clean emissions. That is why opposition to carbon trading has been so big and stalled.

Our prime minister is dumb enough to walk into a parliament with a lump of coal.

Future generations suffering from global catastrophe will remember him and Trump and their stupidly that led us quicker to this path.

Have you watched Michael Moore's recent video?
Big business has gotten their snouts into the renewable industry bigtime already.
They are making mugs of the environmentalists.
Same old same old. 8)

But will they remember the fact that Australia's CO2 emissions were 1.3% while China's was 28%? :chin:

Keep in mind the post I was responding to was in the context of the west.

Russia, India, the Asian tigers and China are merely undergoing the same industrialization we in the west have been going through since the 1880s.

Yes China has contributed (no doubt)
https://www.carbonbrief.org/analysis-wh ... ate-change

But number one on that list on emissions since 1850 is the USA. By a long way. Big business blocking alternative energy research will be one of the legacies we will live with (keep in mind if Tesla coils or some other alternative technology became common place in the US at the turn of the 20th century then it would have been adopted by the Chinese).

The Chinese are equally worried about the future (they are also in the same boat as us and have nowhere to go)
https://www.reuters.com/business/cop/ch ... 021-11-10/

However according to scientists it's too late.
