I am an employee at them McDonalds where all of this went down. When the young black lady screamed it was ridiculous. To tell you the truth it looked like is was a act for her to get attentions
I felt very sorry for Wade he didn't say much and walked out. I guarantee if the rolls were reversed and in was a colored person came in and another employee ran screaming. When later questions said they had a fear of colored people. McDonalds would of took some action. There is no difference I grantee the employee would of been fired

I'm going to question why this is your first post....

and I do agree, I think if the roles were reversed there would be firing.

For god's sake, it's not like they duct-taped him to the wall and burned designs into his flesh with fry grease. Yes, it was an astonishly insulting experience for him, and I'd be furious. But I think there are more serious human rights violations going on in the world that would warrant such an outcry.

She was scared of him... as irrational a phobia as it is, it's still a phobia.

Fear of something shouldn't be put into the same category as hate crimes, etc etc. - she didn't insult the man or hurt the man or publish dwarfish hate-pamphlets about the man... she ran from something she was scared of!

Tough luck to the "little person" (surely, "little person" is a far more patronising term than "dwarf"? )

Geez, it's like people can't be bothered to read the whole story so they can stick to their own biased opinions.

She screamed and ran away.
A co-worker ran to him, thinking he was armed and/or dangerous.
He didn't get his order fixed and given to him, despite having paid for it.
McDonald's management said they understood the employee's actions.
They didn't offer any kind of apology or acknowledgement of the inappropriateness of the action until after the media got to them.

I believe "Little People" is the preferred title, not "dwarf".

I (for one) was arguing with previous post-ers, not the little person. Just sayin', you know?

I find it interesting that McDonald's would act like that, every place I've worked at turns themselves inside out to make sure every customer or potential customer is happyhappyhappy. To the point of accepting expired coupons and handing out free product coupons if someone complains we might have looked at them funny. But I have encountered some fabulously rude service at McDonalds, I must say. And Wal-Mart.

Our local McD's used to have on their menu list "Smiles - free" until so many people annoyed them asking for a free smile with their Big Mac Combo that they took it down.

As a total aside, every time I see the title of this thread it reminds me of the Argentinian Gnome video circulating online at the moment.

Yeah, I've worked in fast food restaurants that put with all sorts of rudeness, scariness and scamming "with a smile". But I've also been the person missing something and been accused of lying. I had a manager at a Carl's Jr. tell me to my face that I got my fries, "but I'll give them to you anyways" with a really annoyed glare. Ironically, she was the one working the drive thru and gave me the bag minus some of the food I paid for.
I've also ordered food special and it wasn't marked down. When I went to ask for a correction, I've had people say, "yeah, now she wants. . . " as if I somehow changed my mind after I ordered.
I think the worst are the franchises because they don't have as many ties to a corporate check system. I worked for a Jack in the Box where all the local ones in the county were owned by one guy. He was very conscientious and promoted great customer service. But out of that region, the Jack in the Box restaurants sucked.

I get so sick of these places making me feel guilty for ordering things specifically without eggs, as I have an egg allergy. Or, when I get given a plate full of food with a large runny egg dumped across everything else and take it back asking for another plate without the eggs I specifically asked not to have, getting evil glares and humphs and sighs and "Well it might take a while, we're really busy, I suppose we could do it, we might need to charge you extra..." etc. As if it's my fault their incompetence could cause me to stop breathing and collapse in a rash-covered heap on the floor.

Somehow I doubt that most businesses ask the question "are you afraid of small people?" during their screening process. Ethan should definitely get some free meals and apologies out of this, but a lawsuit is silly.

Exactly. There is a clear difference between hate and fear. Treating those the same would be a fundamental error in any legal system.

This employee had a phobia. Simple as that.

You can't tell a person what they can and cannot be afraid of. Just accept it...

Honestly, I think people try to be ''offended'' at everything these days, like they HAVE to be offended at something.
