If Trump wins, a coup isn't impossible here in the U.S.

No, while Hillary's presence as the Democratic nominee certainly has the potential to reduce the extent of the Democrats margin of victory over a Republican contender, her victory is itself certain unless underhanded tactics are deployed.

It's worth noting that the Secret Service has recently heightened its protection of Hillary and Trump.

As I have expressed myself in the past:

Demographics show that ethnic minority voters are increasing at the rate of about 0.5% per year. Another way to put that is that every 4-year presidential cycle minority voters increase 2%. Demographers expect minorities to become the majority population in the US by the 2040s.

So the Republicans are going to have an increasingly difficult time winning the presidency due to their attitude against minorities and any nominee, even a rational one, will be burdened by that attitude. A good example of how this is functioning in practice is the 2012 presidential election which pundits claimed at the time would be an extremely close race but wound up being 53-47 in Obama's favor. I'm guessing that this time because of the new 2% that it will be 54-46 or 55-45 in favor of the Democrats no matter who the Republicans put up. In 2020 the Democratic nominee's margin should increase further.

The only ways that I see for the Republicans to win the presidency in the future are (a) the Democratic Party fractures internally or (b) the Republicans do a magnificent job of boosting their image with minority voters. Neither option seems likely in the near future, but who knows?

To which I should now add, (c) if the Republicans assassinate Hillary or deploy other vicious, underhanded tactics to secure a victory. I would not have considered that likely earlier, but with the increasing rhetoric of hate and death threats being leveled against Hillary by Trump supporters it is no longer beyond the pale. The only thing is that Trump needs to make it look like someone else is behind it. If Trump and his supporters are recognized as the perps, that would of course demolish their remaining percentage of the vote.

Like I wrote I believe Comey non indictment was the underhanded tactic. The Clinton demographics maybe increasing but they vote less often then Trump's demographics. In addition to the NeverHillary sentiment the Sanders younger demograhic votes less anyway. If Hillary is assainated whom ever replaces her will be a much better candidate and gain the sympathy/we got to stand up vote.

Why risk getting caught? Let ISIS and revenge seekers and copycats do the work for him. Every attack increases fear and gains him votes. It is likely that there will be attack(s) in America where the death toll will be hundereds or thousands before the election.

If Comey really wanted to hurt Hillary then he would of recommended to indict, it's just like the Whitewater investigation which netted 15 criminal convictions including Bill's successor and the sitting Governor of Arkansas. They didn't recommend prosecution because they didn't believe they could get a conviction given the political implications, the memos in the case were and I quote "bottom line: We can anticipate the following: 2% = Rule 29(dismissal); 18% = Acquittal; 70% =Hung Jury; 10% = Conviction. Not enough in my view." The was something like 5 draft indictments for her, the National Archives should release the records!

Having Hillary whacked would be counter-productive for Trump, he's only got a chance because she's so awful. The smarter play would be to hire an immigrant Muslim stooge to take a shot at him (who would of course be killed by the secret service in the chaos), that might just get him elected.

Nah, nobody would care if he did it that way, the commonplace feeling would be something along the lines of "Those two deserve each other" or somesuch. I mean, look, the Brit tried to steal a cop's gun to get a shot at Trump and people didn't pay much mind. Now maybe Trump has something else up his sleeve, maybe he can put together a "credible" case that Hillary molests orphans or something like that, but the old standby if that doesn't work is to have your enemy kill your enemy; hence, the need for Trump to get Hillary dead. He's got until Election Day, after which it becomes useless as her veep would simply take over. But before Election Day, if it's Trump up against her Veep, especially under conditions that would make for an emotional response in Trump's favor, then it's easy to see how Trump would arrange to "do" Hillary by an Hispanic Muslim or similar stooge, so that Trump could express his dainty sorrow over Hillary's loss. It's not like Trump has any principles - other than: I must win, you must lose.

Clinton hasn't even been nominated yet, and her staunchest supporters are suggesting a military coup if her opponent wins the general election?!? That is good news for Trump, isn't it?

Seriously? A bunch of political shrinking violets must support Clinton.... Wimps.

I have the nasty feeling that if the GOP wins this one, it will not set well with the rest of the world and that there will be consequences that will affect americans.

From who? Justin Trudeau? Enrique Pena Nieto? I'm not worried.

History tells me that those consequences are already planned (and will be implemented) regardless of who wins the presidency. Besides, all U.S. presidents continue or double-down the actions of their former cross-partisan colleagues. Obama did it with Bush policies, Bush did it with Clinton policies, and so on. I will correct you on just one thing: What the rest of the world does in response to U.S. policy is never as bad as what the U.S. government does to itself.

the price that is on his head from the Mexican mob, could expand to americans in general. the dollar as reserve currency could be undermined. americans being seen worldwide as undesirables, we'll all be painted with the same brush. tourism may drop further as more nations warn their citizens about us. these things are floating all over the web.

There won't be a military coup if Trump wins.

Times were much tenser at other times than in 2016. Still, no coup.

I know the Pentagon doesn't really care for him; but what about the rank-and-file soldier?

Most people know that a coup would set a bad precedent. It just won't happen.

Trump's opponents would do the same thing as what Obama's opponents did: stonewall him, prevent his policies from passing in Congress.

I am not worried about these cartels, them targeting Americans would be their death warrant. Far more likely is the alphabet soup boys are working hand and hand with them trafficking drugs. I think Trump probably shouldn't be riding around in the back of an open top convertible but it isn't foreigners you have to worry about in that regard.

Yep. Unless, of course, a "coup" is a false-flag event.

Our friends in NATO who Trump says we ought to leave adrift, or Putin, Kim, and other dictators who think it's easier to make use of him against America's interests through flattery.

Something that is already being worked at and for some time and has little to do with Trump. And it would not matter which president the USA elects. One can not maintain a hegemony forever. And from all I read Trump is not interested in maintaining it anyway.

All anyone would need to do is cut off saudi oil.
Admittedly, the US is only exporting like 10% of its GDP, so not buying american products won't hurt.
But still. If parts of the world decided to not trade with the US, it'd have to come and force them to... But the US is importing a lot, so china, japan and the EU will do anything to stay friends with the US.

So... The saudi king. The only person who can hurt the american empire now. And he'd be ruining his country, trying to.
Still a great reason to invest in renewables.
Just sayin'.

Coups aren't usually international... Turkey's seemed very much internal, despite the bluffing about being coordinated from another country (dictators like Erdogan and Trump say whatever needs to be said opportunistically)... so, if the US is divided similarly I wouldn't be surprised if it's internal.
