Why do people torture their children in hopes of cures?
http://www.care2.com/causes/you-cant-bl ... tml?page=1
I got a google alert for this today. They're having children drink bleach and have bleach enemas, promising a cure. I am getting so disgusted reading about the horrible things people are doing to their children in hopes of cures. Every day it seems I'm hearing some horrible injustice being done to someone with Autism that makes me want to vomit.
I love my son, if I could make his life easier for him, I would. But I would never, in my life, no matter how bad things got subject him to things like this. Is Autism really so bad that we can justify diets and treatments that make our kids sick? Mega doses of vitamins, chelation, restrictive diets, all of these can make people seriously ill, and now bleach?
This trend of trying to eradicate Autism, where we are so obsessed with getting rid of it we are willing to torture our children, it's just sick. No human being deserves this. Where is our empathy? Maybe the people who are willing to do these things to children are the ones who need to be "cured"

Seriously, that is disgusting....I am going to go be an internet nerd and see if there is anywhere to say my opinion on this nastiness so that the people promoting it can see my disgust with them.I Left Autism One the thing promoting this a comment on facebook asking why they are encouraging bleach as a treatment. Also there is this madness about sticking your kid in an oxegen chamber to undo 'brain damage' because apparently autism is brain damage and the cure is more oxegen even though more oxegen than what one normally breaths can be bad for you and cause brain damage itself probably.

In a metaphorical sense, they are trying to squeeze sunlight out of a cucumber. Another metaphor is they're trying to convert s**t(feces kind) back into food. Please read the story of Gulliver's Travels by Jonathan Swift to understand what I am saying. It is stupid, idiotic, insane and not based upon any kind of science at all.

Alright, I have to say I do not quite understand what that means but I think I kind of get the idea. Also according to someone on the facebook page I quote 'autism is infections' I was thinking 'seriously? Their point was oxegen chambers will cure autism since infections die in high oxegen environments and laws should be more leniant towards such treatments because apparently autism is now an infection
Oh did I mention too much oxegen can cause brain damage this information is readily availible on the internet.

As far as I know a higher percentage of oxygen is not bad unless you are near a spark. It won't cure anything but isn't unhealthy.

I recently discovered asperger's as a probable diagnosis for me, and I'm trying to figure out the best way to get diagnosed in my area. However, I'm terrified to get my son, who I also think probably has asperger's, diagnosed, because his NT, narcissistic personality disorder dad would love all of the torture treatments, and given the state of autism treatment today, as I understand it thus far, he might succeed at getting some of these treatments court ordered for my son. My son, after many hurdles, has managed to find his niche and adjust socially to high school life. He appears to be relatively high functioning, and is quite happy overall. He doesn't go to parties or socialize much, but he has a few friends he likes to do things with, and he sees them regularly enough to feel OK about his social life. In his case, things improved dramatically when he suddenly became very tall and good-looking-- teenagers don't tend to bully, or dismiss, a tall, cute boy, however nerdy he may be. So it seems, at the moment, safer to support him in managing his issues and quirks without naming a diagnosis that could, in his case, ruin his fairly happy life. I'm still undecided about all this, but I'm leaning this way, and the bleach stories are further convincing me that I'm on the right track.
Things are in a sorry state when people are afraid to get a child a potentially helpful diagnosis because they fear it could, even in a modern, westernized nation, lead to danger/torture for their child. My idea is to wait a year and a half, until he's 18.
If any other teens/parents have thoughts about not diagnosing a child, I'd love to hear them. Thus far, the fact that I'm learning so much about AS has been extremely helpful for both of us, and I'm able to support him in understanding his differences and finding appropriate coping skills. However, I'm aware many kids have had access to helpful services whose benefits may outweigh the risks of diagnosis. So I'm still undecided.

I seriously doubt the courts would agree to force these treatments. These horrific treatments are not based in science, they are not standard treatments, they are things parents decide to do often against medical advice.
As for diagnosis, sometimes it is the only way to get help, other times you don't need it. As an older teenager it might not make a difference to have a diagnosis or not. For my son it is necessary because this is how we get funding to get an aid for him to integrate into daycare, and school when he is older. We are in Canada, everything is government funded, so no diagnosis means no funding.

link
and there are lots and lots of other google results that say the same thing that too much oxegen can in fact do damage.

For the record, bleach is not a medicine, but it is a deadly poison. So if anyone recommends any kind of bleach treatment, tell them. Also, if you know of anyone who is performing such "treatments", or having such treatments done to a relative, report them to the authorities before they injure or kill someone.
It is true that bleach is used to help purify water, but it only takes two or three drops--yes, drops, per gallon of water. That amount won't kill you, unless you are hypersensitive or allergic to it. If you are dealing with filthy water, first use something to screen out the worst of the debrie, like a coffee or other filter. Then boil it thoroughly for several minutes, then add 2 or 3 drops of water to each gallon. That should help in an emergency situation.
As for "curing" Autism spectrum disorders, there is no "cure." It is a neurological condition present from birth. This is not a germ or parasite caused "illness", so you can't just take a medicine to get rid of it. There are treatments, therapies, and coping methods that can and do help, but no cure. Maybe in the future they will come up with something, but there is nothing available today.
So get the word out about the so called "Bleach Cure."

Well then why do these clowns have an event going on? I looked at the facebook page and it looks pretty official the organizations and such promoting these horrid things.

They are preying on parents who are desperate to change their children, but even the governments have been warning people not to use these treatments, that they are incredibly dangerous. Online you can find hundreds of people claiming they can cure Autism, they may be able to make nice websites and have people come to their conventions, but it doesn't mean the medical community as a whole is condoning this. If someone tried to bring a case like this to court I think they would be laughed out.
It's just so sad that people can't just accept their children for the unique individuals they are, that they could be so upset about who their child is that they would submit them to these things.
But honestly, my son has had many, many doctors, and many, many therapists, not one has ever recommended medications or experimental treatments, or any of the other ridiculous things parents are hoping will be the magic bullet. It's funny that more parents don't think about the fact that they can make their children worse by traumatizing them with horrible treatments like this one. In an effort to help their kids they end up doing so much more harm.
How can you expect a child to grow socially and emotionally if the people who are supposed to protect them are torturing them? With this ridiculous bleach therapy, they literally give them enough so that they vomit and have diarrhea and fevers. How does a child who already struggles with relationships cope with such a betrayal?

Well I am sure the medical community as a whole is not condoning this...but what about the medical professionals that do condone such treatments and use them on kids? They should not even be allowed to have conventions that give such vile advice that could really, really hurt people. Not even just the kids sure its terrible a child would have to endure such torture but can you imagine a naive parent falling for one of these treatments and the guilt they would feel when they found out the truth? I wish I could find where the hold these conventions so I can go protest at them it just pisses me off so much.
I wonder if anyone would like to join me in posting opposition to this evil on the Autism One conferance facebook page if so here is the link
they have a twitter to but I don't use that wretched website.
