What happens when people are informed about Trump's finances
This article is really interesting: Many Voters Think Trump's a Self-Made Man. What Happens When You Tell Them Otherwise?
I know there are people here who believe Trump is and has always been a "successful businessman"--I wonder how this new information might effect their opinion of him.
I hope people read the article, it's really interesting. It turns out even some democrats are not immune to this misinformation effect about Donald Trump either. I think how vulnerable people's perceptions are to that kind of misinformation campaign, whatever political side they are on, is really significant.
Trump's MAGA Hat People will either ignore the message or attack it (and the messenger).
The rest of us already know that...
... he was born into a very wealthy family
... he received more than $413 million in today’s dollars from his father
... he benefited enormously from his father’s political connections
... he benefited enormously from his father’s co-signing of his loans
... his business record is pockmarked with bankruptcies
... he is a liar, a philanderer, and a Russian collaborator

To his supportrs the information will be dismissed as fake news by the hysterical deep state. His opponents will say this is the information that will finally cause him to be forced out of office. Another words pretty much like every other revelation.

I agree. We've reached a level of partisanship and polarization in the U.S. that we haven't seen in this lifetime. I think the divide gained momentum during the Bush/Gore election debacle, picked up steam during Obama's eight years and is peaking now with Trump.
Partisanship isn't specific to a single party. There were Obama supporters that would never or will never accept that he could do wrong. There are Hillary supporters that would never or will never accept that she could do wrong. There are Trump supporters that would never or will never accept that he could do wrong.

I hope it is peaking but I am not sure about that. I am very worried we are too far down the rabbit hole to pull back.
It would put the beginnings a lot earlier back to the 1960’s. Yes it calmed down for awhile but the cultural divide that was exposed in the 60s was never solved just denied and ignored. It was Clinton an ex hippie anti war protester that brought back those feelings, it was more than talk he was actually impeached.

I don't think it's peaking now. You can see examples of it spreading and young people being sucked into it on this very forum. I think we are in for worse (and crazier and more delusional) before it gets better, from Trump supporters and truth deniers.
Anything that produces dirt or can be made to look like dirt I suppose.
It would be a lot easier to continue not talking to you if you would stay out of my threads. If you want me to leave you alone, you should do the same and leave me alone. It's only fair. I don't make a lot of threads of my own, so it shouldn't be difficult to avoid me in this way.

I replying to TimTex regarding the topic - I was not talking about you - not even indirectly, in any way whatsoever.
If you want to post in a thread I start or reply to any post I make in any thread - that is perfectly fine - as long as it is regarding the topic of that thread - rather than it being about me personally.
Any further posts you make adressed to me personally rather than the topic of the thread, will simply be ignored from now on.

No matter what I say, you say it's about you personally.
Stay out of my thread please.

Only when it's to me about me - or worse about me and you - rather than about the topic.
I wasn't paying attention to who started this thread - I was just replying on topic to Tim_Tex who I have been talking to in threads for years.
If you think I'm going to keep track of where you are posting - you are wrong. As a matter of fact - unless you keep this up - I'm most likely to forget all about this and forget who you are within a few days.

People will simply find the news articles that 'confirm' the belief they already have and so we are back to Trump Derangement Syndrome with his fanbase getting all hysterical and pointing at biased news sources that say he is squeaky clean and his haters are pointing at biased news sources that say he needs locking up immediately

It is not your thread but Alex Plank’s whose website this is.
In my over 5 years on Wrong Planet what I have noticed that most threads veer away from the original topic. I do not fully understand why this happens but my guess is executive dysfuntion common to people on the spectrum. When I was a new member of wrong planet this really pissed me off. I had just put a lot of effort trying to get my point across (I am not a natural writer) about a topic that I am really interested in and the conversation is now about some topic I don’t care about or has turned into members joking about something that I do not understand.
Over the years I have come to reluctantly understand that when I start a topic or even reply on topic I have made my point and not to expect anything further then that. If “my” thread stays on topic for more than a page or two that is a bonus.
I do not know how a prohabition against going off topic could be be enforced.
And yes, I do get the irony that this reply is way off topic.
