This is beyond shocking...it's hard to believe that a low-functioning autistic individual was capable of such a grisly and heinous crime!! ! That poor innocent woman, who was just doing her job as a teaching assistant...even if she had tormented him in some way, that is NO EXCUSE for what he did

From what I read, it sounds like there is no connection between the teen and the teaching assistant. Random killing predatory. We had something similar a year or two ago. A homeless person was camping in the trees by the river and decided to go kill a young woman on the golf course at random. We live half a mile from where it happened.

Just because someone is autistic doesn't also mean that they can't be psychotic/violent like any other human being.

I saw nothing in the article indicating he is a severely/low functioning autistic.

The article said he was diagnosed with autism and he had an IQ of sixtyfive. I think the low IQ probably is presumed by the op to make him low functioning.

There's very little evidence in this case. All they have is CCTV footage of him moving the bin, and him saying that he, after being bribed, had disposed of the body. Everything else I've read about it has been conjecture.

Not now it doesn’t

Price has a low IQ of 65 and would usually shrug in response to conversation but had never shown signs of violence, the court heard.

...That seems like an awful lot of planning and preparing for someone with (presumably) low-functioning autism and an IQ of 65.

It sounded very calculated that he could drag the body and dispose it but yet he says some random stranger was dragging a bag and offered him cash if he helped him.

With low intelligence, you are more likely to get in trouble with the law. You are also more likely to confess to a crime you did not commit. The fact no suspicion in him was raised when some random man asked him to drag a bin for him. I am sure the random person saw he was off and knew he could manipulate him by simply just asking. The teen did not suspect anything when he dragged that bin. Did he even know it was a body? If he was aware of the body but still buried it, he did commit a crime because what he did was illegal. I think you would be able to tell there was a body inside the bag just by feeling it.

Apparently the victim just happened to be a teacher of autistics, and was not HIS teacher. He seems to have picked her at random, and had no connection to her, and her profession was just an ironic coincidence.

He could've been capable of this, don't be dissuaded by the supposed low IQ, denials, etc. They probably have some pretty good evidence in order to prosecute...it's not like we have the whole case file in our hands here.

Wrongful convictions happen, but they're not common. Statistically, it's likely that he's guilty. It's extremely common for people to plead non-guilty, as there is often a potential case there, evidence can be disputed, lies can be told, etc.

But of course it's good to at least consider it as a possibility that he's innocent, because rarely, these things do happen. I would try to be wholly unconvinced either way, but to go with likelihoods and not give him the benefit of the doubt just because he's pleading not-guilty and has a little bit of leverage there.

Usually there is a lot of evidence needed to convict with something like this. I guarantee they have more evidence than merely seeing him dispose of the body, they just haven't gone into the forensic details in the news.

The fact the parents say their son has no history of violence, of course they would have troubles buying he did the crime.

The question is is someone with a low IQ capable of planning out a crime and figuring out how to hide their crime. Can they calculate a crime?

Seems like he spontaneously performed the crime, and spontaneously hid the body.

I would think the issue is whether his low IQ makes him not understand that he did something wrong.

Like cats, they kill bunnies, however, their low IQ makes it impossible for them to comprehend human morality.

As someone who works with people with IQs 70 and under: Yes, he could have done it...or Yes, he could have been easily duped into getting rid of the bags. No way to know without knowing the kid much, much, better.

It is not unusual for parents of violent children deny or minimize the violence, even to themselves.

IQ is a poor measure of cunning and ability to prevaricate and manipulate.
