This is just a personal theory, but I think that if you try to stop stimming, it will only frustrate you. Stimming is a gift. I personally shake my right leg and rock in my chair, and I used to flap my hands.
What I do is, I stim while I'm working, and I work where nobody can see me. It actually helps me concentrate, by letting my body get "distracted" while my mind is focused.
But as for not being able to talk to people, I don't think that there is any connection to stimming. Try thinking of stimming as "letting your inner aspie out", and it might help you feel recharged and ready to face the world.
So, try to limit your stimming to certain contexts, where nobody can see you. It's a good compromise.
