The silence of someone else could be the result of anxiety on their part?

I used to have several good friends.

Now I don't.

Simply because I can't communicate with them.

They're just an email away and I can't even log into that email account because they might have sent me a message...asking me...why didn't I get back to them when they needed me?

That was several years ago.

How do I explain to them that my whole body goes into a cold sweat. That I feel as if I'm experiencing tremors from the core of my body even though there's no observable physical response. That I feel forced to hide myself within weeks worth of data cataloguing in order to escape the mere thought of logging into that email account and actually having a conversation.

I've felt this way for years. I think about it every day. I still haven't sent the message.

It's driving me f*****g crazy.

There is a physical block - maybe even damage - in the very most fundamental core of my neurology when it comes to dealing with these emails that must be sent. They're my friends and yet...they're lost to me.

The point is...

Spontaneous and weird things can happen to people. Things that they can't even explain to themselves without immense stress for merely trying to think about and analyse why it might be happening to them.

Someone isn't necessarily trying to hurt you by being silent. They might be in silent agony because they can't communicate.

I hope it isn't anxiety or agony. I love Jackie.

I am sorry that you're going through this emotional crises, but we of the assembled crowd here on WP are not in a position to mediate between you and your estranged wife.

Try to get some counseling IRL please.

And take care.

I've never given anyone the silent treatment when I've been angry at them, it's impolite. It's like saying hello, even if it's not said back I'm not going to let people make me uncivil just because they lack manners.

Blarg ignore my post on the first page, I thought this was a general topic not about a very personal issue...so my post might not be sensitive to the fact it is personal rather than a general post about the negative state of society.

When someone has hurt me or gotten me upset, I just can't look at them or even talk to them and even deal with them. It does speed things up if they apologize but it doesn't make me want to speak to them again right away. I never saw this as manipulation or as a form of bullying. I read it's also a form of bullying. My grandfather does this a lot if you have made him mad and then he gets over it but it can take days. My mom looks at it as at least he isn't hitting anyone like he used to so a silent treatment is better. It's hard to face the person who has gotten mad at you or has hurt you. Then it's always confusing when they act like nothing has happened and you are still upset about it and it's even more hurtful when they don't knowledge it. It's like they don't care so why are you even dealing with these people? Is this a narcissist trait I have or is it none narcissist?

My ex ignored me too and then he came back twice and then was silent again. I moved on and don't need someone like him in my life. He was also a narcissist.

Sorry about that

Sweetleaf wrote:
I did not know the silent treatment was all that popular, but I imagine people use it to manipulate for the same reasons they'd use other tactics to manipulate, to get what they want and take advantage of people and that kind of thing. People have been mean, even cruel to each other since the beginning of humanity and that hasn't changed, though some societies attempt to make advances to discourage it but you'll always have cruel sadistic people.

It seems like it, at least with Jackie and a few other people who I thought were friends before they stopped acting like friends. It does suck that it seems like you have people who would be noble treated as if they are "naïve" until they don't care anymore and others who act like everything is some stupid game rather than real life where people actually get hurt. It's even worse when such people know it and sadistically enjoy how they hurt others and make them suffer. It almost is enough to prove the existence of demons.

Sweetleaf wrote:
Of course divorce is defended, as a right at least I mean can you imagine if marriage legally bound you to someone for life regardless of how they end up treating you and it was a crime to leave them? divorce sucks but its necessary for it to be allowed.

What about the "for as long as we both shall live"/"unto death do we part" vows? Are they just poetry? If someone commits actual adultery, rather than imaginary "heart adultery", such is Biblically a capital crime. Maybe such scum should be executed, along with people who sexually abuse children. If they treat you abusively, maybe they should be publicly flogged until they get the notion that it's wrong to hurt women through their thick skulls.

Sweetleaf wrote:
As for marriage being assaulted, well you lost me there. Seems like it is still quite common place for people to get married and whilst divorce rates can be high there are a lot of marriages that last as well. Whats wrong with people are the things that have always been wrong with people.

It's been a slow process of boiling a frog.

Sweetleaf wrote:
And the bible has a lot of contradictory points, I mean you have Jesus talking of peace and loving your neighbor, and other verses calling for destruction of 'ungodly' cities and all the people in them, Jesus criticizing people stoning someone because 'let he who is sin free cast the first stone' and other verses that list all the kinds of people that ought to be stoned. So it shouldn't be a surprise a pastor picks and chooses some verses to use and not others.

Picking and choosing is often what happens, but that's why there are doctrines such as "sola scriptura" and such. The one that I found annoying when I tried to be a vegetarian is people pretending that it's some sort of sacrament to eat bacon. I can't afford to be a vegetarian anymore, but I wish I could - though I don't miss people picking Genesis 9 and saying, "see we're meant to eat animals". Biblically we have permission to, but the original design is Genesis 1:29-31 and as per Isaiah 11 and 65 and Revelation 21:4ish I think the world to come is going to go back to the original design. Having permission to do something is far from that something being considered proper. Like with divorce, Jesus said "it's for the hardness of your hearts Moses wrote you that, but from the beginning it was not so. ... what was two is now one, so let no one separate what God has put together."

Try living my life and telling me that.

How do you know I haven't?

Woe are you; woe are you. We get it.

Well, no pity from me. Misery is a choice. There's two types of people in the world. One type has misfortune and says, "it could be worse!" The other type has misfortune and says, "this is as bad as it possibly can get." Well, ONE of them is right.

Well, that's rude. Are you someone I know or do you just think you know me?

Meh its not that simple, there are some things that will suck no mo matter how rosy you try to imagine it. I mean provided you have all the necessary basics and are in at least semi-decent health perspective has quite a lot to do with how you feel. However it is possible to fall into very dire situations where you'd be insane to say 'life is rosy'.

Yeah, it's one thing when you don't have to worry about anything versus living from paycheck to paycheck and going without food a couple days each week.

Perhaps not. It still is really annoying though, isn't it? Especially when people know it's something you hate and do it to you intentionally.

Why is it a popular manner today to be silent towards people as a method of manipulation? What is it with the people who practice the silent treatment? How is it that anyone would want to be so mean to another? Why do people treat other people like machines and resources to be used and depleted and discarded? What is wrong with humanity? How has this world not set itself on fire yet when people are so sadistic and mean to each other on an individual basis? How bizarre it is that "silence is golden", but communication is "evil". How strange it is that divorce is defended and marriage assaulted. How weird it is that pastors quote more from Malachi 3:10 than chapter 2:16 of the same book (or even the Gospel itself.) What is wrong with people?

Silent treatment and manipulation? These things are as old as time. However, honest and hard work are equally as old. I'd say it's the culture shock that drives people the craziest. I used to be just as perplexed and frustrated, but I found it easier to look for goodness and surround myself with it than to complain about the bad stuff. Don't get me wrong, I still complain....but for less time, lol....and I move on faster these days. "Shake it off" is a phrase I use often ;) . I think the best we can do is lead by example and enjoy our choice for morality and peace. Sometimes, seeing what is wrong helps a person appreciate their home and family more. Bad lifestyles and good lifestyles are both contagious. Sometimes the grass is brown and fugly on the other side, lol. So enjoy your grass. Play on your grass. Love your grass....and it will just get greener and more lovely. Oh yes, and I had to remind myself once to stop staring at the bad people, and I learned to spend more time watching the good people. They may be harder to find at first, but in time, I found just enough good people to compensate abundantly ;)

Well, this then is a song that you might like:

I only have two hours for internet at the library, so it tends to log me off regardless of whether or not I want to stay online. Also, it's an hour to walk to the library from home. I didn't mean to ignore you, so sorry about that.

I can understand that, I try not to say anything when I'm angry because I don't want to hurt feelings with sharp words, but I make an effort to communicate and try to get past my anger since emotions are temporary chemical reactions within my own mind. If you're not doing it intentionally, then it can't be bullying, by default, but if a person does do it intentionally know that it hurts someone, then it is. I think so anyway.

I don't really see substitution of bad behaviors as being perfect. It is better to be silent than to be violent, of course, but hurting a person emotionally is painful too.

I don't know enough about narcissism to answer that. I think it's confusing when people don't behave like you think they will, so maybe that is all that is. I don't know.

It's wrong to hurt anyone, and I would advise stop taking the Bible so literally, it's fundamentalism when you do it, no matter the religion (if you take the book word for word). Also, killing someone for divorce is an insane idea and relating it to child abuse is something I cannot understand.

Plus, divorce is not something strictly for marriages with religion.

Well, for me I'd be glad if Jackie would come back once and didn't abandon me again. I have no idea how I'd be able to convince her to return and love me again, but I don't really want anyone other than her. It's easy for me to, annoyingly develop crushes/Aspie-fixations-on-people, but Jackie is the only one who has ever loved me back and I've never wanted anyone other than her. I've wanted to know for sure that one of the things the person who fired and sued her for was false (they didn't have proof for court, but that doesn't mean anything other than the legal system can be faulty [punishing the innocent and acquitting the guilty, for instance] at times), but apart from that and a few whiny complains about my "having to do all the housework" and my "working every single day in a row for two years while she didn't" and so much about the My Little Pony merchandise that she had me buy her while I was paying for what she did, apart from that, I still want to be married to the lady I first married. I wish I could figure out what was wrong and fix it, but I really just want her back. She didn't used to be like she was for the last two years. Right before she was fired and sued, we were both working and everything was finally getting better. Then she got fired and sued and she couldn't work with children until her probation ended. Then, within the month her probation ended, she said she was going to be babysitting for her brother and be back the next day after she was done, but she didn't return and I've had to live in an RV and walk everywhere since while she lives with her brother and raises his two little boys.

I don't think you're reading what I said. Adultery is a capital crime, not divorce. Divorce is something which shouldn't exist, but it does as only a concession for the hardness of hearts.
