Is this true in everyone elses world?

What is crazy is, everyone ignores the fact the person is a jerk because he/she is so polite.

I agree in the sense that I like people to be honest. I find people are often fake nice just to get their way, and it is very irritating. I wish people would just be honest. Honesty doesn't have to be rude, but the whole world seems to think so.

I can't stand people who fake nice. They drive me up the wall.

I'm probably part of the problem, when people spend longer than a minute or two to explain something to me, I start nodding, especially if they just follow one tangent after another, and the nodding really means different things, like "Yes, I'm aware of your attempts to communicate" or "shut up already, this is cutting into the "me" time" but I look so friendly and confused (people often suspect that I'm lost) that perfect strangers feel compelled to talk me to death. I mean individually, I love hearing what a complete stranger has to say, gives you perspective, but when they're all doing it, my brain just gets full and I nod a lot, maybe it's a crude attempt to empty all the other thoughts to make room for more.

When I was growing up it always rubbed me the wrong way that some of the other students seemed superficially nice. I never could get past that superficial veneer and get to any real sharing of interests. I never trusted anyone who was like this and I still don't.

there are some people who get away with being jerks by being polite. and there are some who get away with it by being "charming." i can't stand any of them.

i think being "pleasant" is a more valued trait to most than being truthful, dignified, accurate, respectful, etc.

oh well.

Everyone has got a little dark side to them...

I've been through this a lot as a kid, everyone in my school district looked nice but as time went on I learned that they were all just jerks...

I love this topic, it reassures me that I am a wonderful person (I am not polite at all).

Well someone who is always rude is probably not entirely honest or in touch with reality either. If someone is always nasty and miserable to everyone, then this likely indicates a distortion of reality just the same as fake nice people. Truth is is truth; sometimes it's nice and sometimes it seems rude. It is what it is. Bu there are different ways of saying the exact same thing, so it does not always have to be hostile or nasty.

There's a difference between nice folk and polite folk.

People call me a nice guy (total BS) and I think of myself as trying to be polite.

Though it's true, sometimes I just don't care and try to be a humble person and people judge me for it.

I really am trying to be nice and polite. People just take it for granted and think I'm superficial and then label me and try to take advantage of me.

And so when push comes to shove, I'll f*ck anyone up.

I mean, we're all human, we've all got that natural born instinct within us to fight. You see bad people from every type of type you typed into your head. Who made those nice/polite folk into jerks? Why are rude/impolite folks such jerks?

I don't get it either but I figure maybe they don't realize the person is a jerk or the jerk is nice to them or they are seeing the overall picture and see the good sides of the person and ignore the bad sides. We all have bad sides.

It's so easy to focus on the negative when you have had an issue with that person. So we automatically think "jerk."

Absolutly not. Jerks are defined in my world by their behavior. Jerks don't play nice unless they are trying to manipulate.
