I'm on a bus now and IMO it's upsetting sure I need to use it 4 transportation but 4 some reason I find it upsetting. :-( It's 4 disability they pick me up at home but I hate having to use it I'm so used to relying on family. :-( Besides the HAVE TO 4 transportation IMO it's discouraging. Does this resonate with anyone or am I alone? :-(

Is it because a stranger is helping you, but it's his job? I would find that upsetting. A lot of people take the bus by choice, so there is no shame in it.

Thanks. I think for some reason I feel shame I'm not sure why. I broke down crying my eyes out when I got home. I'm not sure why. :-(

I'm not in your head, but you probably feel ashamed because you want more for yourself. I cry about that for myself a lot, but what I've learned is that you take these little baby steps forever, and you think you're getting nowhere, and then one day you take this BIG step, to your next life "assignment". Try not to feel ashamed, just be glad you don't have to take a rickshaw to your appointments. :P

(Sorry if that comes off as light hearted. This is just how I deal with those kinds of feelings, for myself.)

Perhaps you could try and get your driver license many people with AS tend to wait until they are older to get their license and at 23 you might be a good age to start learning. If you learn in an automatic car it will make things easier for you. I learnt in auto and it helped me to get my license.

I got my learners at age 15, but didnt get my license until I was 22.It wasnt because of my AS, but because my parents didnt have either the time, or the money to teach me.My dad wanted to, but the circumstances never permitted it.Luckily, I got a job as a stock clerk at a store and paid for my own vehicle and got driving lessons.I then took my drivers test and passed.

I hate taking the bus too (Its the cheapest mode of transportation though, after having a few drinks...taxis in Red Deer tend to gouge $$$)...I only take it when I go to the bar so then I don't drink and drive.I dont like it but at least its safer than getting behind the wheel after drinking. Many drunk people here take the bus, so on weekend nights, Red Deer transit is full of drunk college students.

I never liked public transportation. Too many strange people around me either laughing so loud or coughing or blowing their nose or making any loud noises. Plus the staring! I have to take the subway into work every day. Well it does beat driving into Washington DC every day. But I'm trying to find a job closer to home where I can just drive my own car to work.

I know the feeling sometimes. I can't afford to learn to drive or own a car at present, so I get to work or out and about using the buses. It's alright but I hate getting them on my way to work in the morning as they are, 9 times out of 10, over-crowded. Even if there are places to sit, people who travel on public transport are far from considerate (does this just happen in Manchester UK or does this occur everywhere else as well?). Men in particular are incredibly rude and inconsiderate. Not only do they physically barge you out of the way (I'm 159cm short and don't weigh very much, so a guy barging into my usually makes me lose my balance....) but I think most of them, about 80% of them, think that what is between their legs is bigger than it is as they sit with their legs so far open they take up a double seat! Seriously I just want to shout out, 'get over youselves, you're not that big nor do you have testicular oedema!! !! Make some room now, there are people who want to sit down!! !! !'. As far as women are concerned, they put their bags on one seat, thenselves on another. I am guilty of committing this crime, but if I think the bus is getting full, I will accommodate myself so that, if needs be, someone can sit next to me. Why is it that not all women can do this? What the hell is the problem with some people? So, erm, yeah I understand.

I love taking the bus! But it's because my ''special interest'' is buses.

I'm a female Aspie, by the way - so my special interests aren't intelligent things like maths and electronics :)

I also enjoy taking the bus.

I'm female-bodied, and, a) buses are intriguing, certainly - b) i find that just a little bit offensive. I have no idea if I'm an Aspie, but my focused interests have ranged from molecular biology to pinball. I am biased against the gender divide, but your opinion seems to lack evidence.

As for buses. The brake mechanics are fascinating to me, but I detest riding them - it always feels so awkward to sit there and be forced to ignore everybody else while their infants scream and they discuss drug matters. Once when I was on the bus, a woman behind me was speaking loudly about how "everyone's schizophrenic, because everyone has a little voice in their head that tells them what to do" - so, "everyone on this bus is a f***ing schizo." Her facts were wrong and I was bothered. Also, people address me directly quite often on buses - I take a bus home from school with retirement home people, and they are lonely and talk to the children. I understand why, but it's awkward.

I know how you feel. I can't drive because mother kept finding reasons not to teach me. I'm almost graduated from college and I feel like such a failure for not being able to drive.

I don't mind taking the bus. It's cheaper now to take it than driving because I use a Honary Citizen pass that is for seniors or people with disabilities. I take it to work everyday.
