How do you deal with thoughts of suicide? I want to kill myself often but I'm always afraid to do it. I'm wondering how I should deal with these things.

Yes, this does seem to work. It works until I get bored.

Distraction only goes so far, eventually you have to find a reason to keep going.....one other thing I do other then simple distraction is set rather ridiculous goals such as 'I can't kill myself until I buy all the pink floyd albums'...sometimes that can help give you something else to focus on.

I am the same.

You have to try and think of something else, or get lost in doing something. If your thoughts get lost in something else, it sometimes helps.

Do you have any animals you love? Because if you can try and think of being there for them it sometimes helps. Also depending on your belief system, there are certain things that can help. Are you agnostic? Religious? You don't have to answer.

I found this book -Choosing to Live: How to Defeat Suicide Through Cognitive Therapy by Thomas E. Ellis & Cory F. Newman, the most helpful thing ever! I used to be very serious about killing myself and have near constant suicidal thoughts, but this really helped me and I know I wouldnt kill myself now, though sometimes I still feel like it.

Go out, roam around. Have a job, I just advised on a thread that most aspies should be teachers.
Here is what I wrote
Quote:
Become a teacher. I believe that most aspie should become if they cannot have jobs in other fields. Teaching, I believe, is profession which is aspie friendly. Although, teaching kinder garten kids can be difficult for aspies but primary, secondary or higher would be fine. Teaching jobs are not lucrative but it is respectable and does not require one's to understand innuendos and social ranks of other which is the case in a normal office jobs.

If I could "distract" myself for the rest of my life that'd be great.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm not so sure it's worth it anymore.

Today is one of those days where everything is going wrong. I see no future for myself or a way out (of feeling like this). Basically I'm failing at the thing I like the most. I can't seem to get anything to work. And I missed an important test for school that I wont be able to make up. This means I'll fail and lose my financial aid for college. Which means I will never get a good job.

Ever since I started taking walks every day, I haven't felt suicidal at all. Walking is good for your mental health, and it has been proven to be more effective than antidepressants.

This is what I meant by roaming. I am at home for few years now and when you are alone you tend to retrospect more. Its good to retrospect but up to a point, understand what you did wrong to you and others and what others did wrong to you, make your plans to avoid such things in future and that is it. I think when you take a walk your senses naturally tend to process the environmental stimuli and since aspies are hypersensitive to most stimuli, this experience will let them to stop thinking about their worries.

I think of it every night, and hate the fact that an accident would indeed make things better for my family. :( 'sigh' It'd be great if that wasn't true.

Really? You're sure the kids would respect a teacher that comes off as socially akward and has low confidence? maybe thats a better job option for aspies not stuggling with depression. But who knows.....just a thought, its what I think whenever anyone brings up teaching to me.

Yes, kids would scoff a bit at such a teacher. I did not think about this point, thanks for bringing it up. Btw, kids scoff at all of their teachers to some extent. I believe aspies would be very involved in their teacher and will be respected for their skills by the students. The major point is that such kinds of jobs do not put social pressure on aspies. I believe that govt. should give 1% quota to aspies in teaching jobs atleast.
What do you think about highlighted portion :)?
