Why is it people always seem to blame my quirks?

Ok, so I am somewhat eccentric. For instance, I enjoy eating hot food sometimes. My dad and I went to an Indian restaurant (because my dad has never tried Indian food), and I ordered something a little bit more spicy than his. Both of us got sick after we got home and had a bit of diarrhoea. Today, my stomach still feels a bit bad and he thinks it is because I enjoy hot food and that the hot food is wearing down my stomach lining. He thinks I'm gonna get an ulcer. For some reason, I just can't enjoy bland European and Japanese-style food all the time (my dad is full-blooded Japanese). I also enjoy some spicy food.

It seems every time I have a problem, he blames my quirk. Like if I say "Dad, I have X problem, what should I do?." He will say, "Well, you should quit doing Y, because ... insert some patronizing lecture."

His ideas about life seem like they are stuck in the 1940s (since he was born on a little farm).

Have any of you had this problem with your family, friends, relatives, or strangers?

Acknowlege that your father has a point? There are more mouth cancers in India than other areas of the world due to the spicy food.

And Japan has a higher instance of lower digestive cancers due to heavy metals in fish.
