I was let go from my previous employment and last week my mom approached my boss to ask if they would be willing to write me a reference so I can find new employment, which they agreed; but they said I needed to go and pick it up in person myself.

I can't work up the courage to go see them because I have to return to my previous place of work. Please help.

If you're like me in this manner it's rather like returning to the scene of a horrible accident. I'm not sure what kind of encouragement I can offer but you did say 'let go' and not 'escorted off the premises in handcuffs' so that can be something to help power you up maybe. There IS also the possibility that they want you to come in so they can talk to you about giving you your position back. I don't know as much but if you enjoyed your time there and they cut you loose due to being overstaffed there could be a door that was just temporarily closed. But either way I do relate with having my world yanked out from under me. Just try and keep your thoughts in a positive frame. Hope you get through it well

Do what i do when there's a situation I really wish to avoid but must do. Go in for broke. Basicly you suck it up, do your best to appear confidant and just go in. I always give myself a little prep talk but the simple fact of the matter is. If you don't do it it won't happen. You need your referance, So go in a get it. They may have let you go but bloody hell am posistive you earned a referance from them, You deserve it so go get it.
