I'll probably come across as very rude when I say this but I don't care since I'm getting sick of the nonsense. It seems nowadays that people take themselves waaaay too seriously on almost everything and it's been that way for about 15 - 20 years now but has gotten worse in the last maybe 10 years or so. They're way too wound up on their own crap and politics and whatever schemes they have going on in their lives and see life as some sort of weird reality TV game show, or something like that. For those people, I say that you are NOT a brand. Your life / politics / personal habits / whatever weird hobbies you have are NOT the focus of human civilization. For the record, most of the stuff you have on your online profile or whatever you strut around with in real life aren't even your ideas or your original stuff so the majority of you are fake to begin with - a knockoff from someone else's BS life. If you think Facebook or Twitter or Pinterest or PokeMe or whatever fly-by-night website is something to take seriously, you need mental help! Anyone on Facebook who actually takes that website seriously is FAKE. FAKE FAKE FAKE! I don't care who it is or what they do for a living, they are fake as plastic wood.

Moral of this rant: don't take the attention whores and social media crazies seriously, and save yourself time, sanity, and maybe make your life a little happier.

There's a lot of truth to this.

I know some people who are "social media personalities," and knowing them in real life I realize just how choreographed and fake their online personas really are. I prefer their very real humanly flawed real life selves and am glad to know them irl vs. just their pretty pictures and carefully curated posts online.

It seems like the information / media age we live in has lead to a weird resurgence of Tribalism. Sadly, I think this is the normal state for most humans and the Gutenberg Printing Press era only created a temporary surge of individualistic literary people which is now receding.

Some people just can’t laugh at themselves.

True, but I would not agree that it's only in the past 15-20 years. I think many people have ALWAYS taken themselves too seriously.

Life is a comedy, if you let it be. But there is always enough tragedy to go around, and it can drag you down if you don't laugh a little every day.

I agree with what you all said here. I just am tired of the constant social media drama and how it's affecting real life.
